About the Author

Before becoming a novelist, Michael Robotham was an investigative journalist working across America, Australia and Britain. As a journalist and writer he investigated notorious cases such as the serial killer couple Fred and Rosemary West. Not that the others are in any way bad, in fact many contrive even more devious plots, but Robotham has a literary style which should propel him into the Man Brooker lists,, and wouldn't THAT be a triumph for a crime writer?!

But again, I'm put off any enjoyment of the actual narrative by the author's use of American English dialogue between characters (ie, 'sure', 'guy', 'orthodontist'- from a young child who would say 'dentist' in UK - 'track pants' - oh there are too many incidences to mention and once it's under your skin, you notice every single one.) Since when does an English dairy herdsman wear 'cowboy' boots to work???Preposterous! Then there is the name of a retired, UK detective.....'Ruiz'....???! Not in England, or if so, extremely rare. But so prevalent in USA (and Mexico!) This and several other books are totally ruined for me and it upsets me greatly. When will these authors learn, when your tale is set in the United Kingdom, especially England, use the English Language and terminology! 😡

I have read all Joe O Loughlin stories,I won't go through the plot but I loved these stories.Great character in Joe,who has the onset of Parkinsons,but I loved Ruiz,everyone should have a Ruiz,whose rolling walk is' like a pirate on his ship'.Loved Joe's psychological awareness of how people behave and Ruiz always there to the rescue.Great books

I have really enjoyed the previous Joe O'Loughlin Books and Joe (and Ruiz) are great characters. This particular story started well enough, however the involvement of Joe's Children with the Killer in the later stages was stretching credibility a little to far this time for me, especially as Charlie had been taken prisoner by a Killer in an earlier Book.
However this Book is still a good read and I will be buying the rest of the Books in the Series.
