Product description

Product Description

There’s a conspiracy in the Goldfields of Western Australia, and the money men of London don’t like it. Dirigible pilot Rebecca Jones likes it even less. She has a messenger service to run, justice to pursue in a lawless land, and she can do without Special Agent to the Crown, Nathan Burton, hijacking her dirigible—and her heart—and disrupting her carefully laid plans. The result is adventure, romance and explosions.

A Steampunk novella.

What a combination - my home town (and the inland gold mines), steampunk, spies, all mixed up with a bit of romance? Oh, and don't forget the clockwork echidnas. Now I really want one of those.

This is a light read, with enough suspense and romance to happily while away an afternoon. Though it does make me wonder if Western Australia's history might've played out very differently if dirigibles were the order of the day before the twentieth century...

Five stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Justice and romance in the outback. 20 April 2017

~A frontier gold rush, a need for justice, a romance, and a feisty airship captain…this story has all the right elements mixed together, crafted into an exciting steampunk setting.
~Loyalty in business, friendship, and romance are exhibited by the main character…Rebecca Jones. This story had a good mix of likeable and no-so-likeable characters. It made for a fast paced adventure. The fact that Rebecca was quite willing…and able…to take matters into her own hands, to seek justice for others, speaks highly of her character and creativity. Definitely a heroine worth reading about.
~I don’t know much (if anything, really) about Australia’s outback frontier history…however, the author gave a good portrayal of the rough life endured by early settlers and miners.
~The romantic part of the story was not heavy handed. It was NOT the typical Harquelin Romance novel. There were some issues for the couple to work through. That minor conflict (perhaps, too strong of a word) lead to good character development.
~My only disappointment: it ended too soon!
4.0 out of 5 stars Unique setting 27 January 2015

Unique setting: a steampunk version of Western Australia during the Goldrush. Well-described. The heroine, Becky, is a plucky engineer/inventor/pilot of her own dirigible and the hero Nathan is an agent of the British Crown. Both are likeable.
Quibble: the barriers to the romance were dealt with two swiftly for my tastes (one of the perils the novella) leaving the only tension in the spy plot.

I enjoyed this quick fun read. I'm a steampunk fan and the light steampunk with some light romance made for a good read. I'd love to see more from these characters.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good read 12 September 2016

I received a copy of this book for an honest review. The title of this book implies that this story setting will be one of steampunk. The heroine, Rebecca James, owns the dirigble and is making her living delivering messages/ mail to the prospectors in the outback. I was disappointed with the steampunk aspect of it. I did however, enjoy
