It's certainly no '50 Shades of Grey' - thank goodness. It is well written for one thing.
The only thing I would say is that I had to take breaks from reading it - it was so hot.

Sexual assault is sexual assault no matter how you dress it up, including in a novel. This was truly dreadful, full of non-consensual emotional and sexual abuse that was just plain unpleasant. In the end I simply skipped chapters and found more of the same. I then skipped to the end, no joy there either. I won't be buying any more of this series, or indeed anything else written by the authors.

Wow, I knew this book was going to be risque but, mercy me, it was just constant and gratuitous! I have read many of Anne Rice's books and although I was looking forward to something to make me blush, I found that I cringed more. I expected a little more intellectual dialogue, world-building and structure. A lot of it just didn't add anything to the story. No intellectual foreplay here, it just went straight into the weird, disempowering and, sometimes brutal trouncing of Beauty.

Dont bother wasting your money. This falls short in so many ways but my main issue with it is the main character 'Beauty' is awoken in a pretty harsh manner and is told she is now a "love slave" and aside from crying she does nothing to protest this! Not even an escape attempt, she just dutifully says "yes my prince" and off they go!!! I enjoy a good dark read but this was not a winner at all!

This book is hot trash. Unless you're looking for pure porn, in which case, I guess you might like it?

If you are actually looking for some sexy times with good plot and characters, steer clear of this series and pick up Kushiel's Dart by Jacqueline Carey or Bitten by Kelley Armstrong. Or hell, even Valley of the Horses by Jean Auel.

Warning- Spoiler alert!

I was looking forward to reading this book because I really enjoyed some of Anne Rice's vampire novels and I also love to read (and write) erotic fiction. The story was gripping enough to where I couldn't put it down, but it left me feeling disappointed for the following reasons:

1) We find out early on that the main character (Beauty) is only 15. I don't enjoy reading about the sexual exploits of underage teenagers so had to imagine she was at least 18 in order to carry on reading the story. It has put me off Anne Rice as a writer. Why make her so young? Anne Rice also refers to the sex slaves as 'children' of their masters on several occasions, both in this book and the next.
2) Beauty has very little personality and this made it difficult for me to care about her.
3) Beauty never puts up much of a fight. In fact, none of the characters do. There is one who seems promising but is later revealed to have been faking it, which was anti-climatic.
4) The story is full of bisexuality and homosexuality which is a major turn off for me as a heterosexual female.
5) Practicalities such as the need to defecate, urinate or menstruate are wholly omitted from the story rendering it silly and unbelievable. At one point it is mentioned that they are allowed to do these things in private because the queen has no interest in them, but when you have people tied to walls and ceilings for hours, sometimes days, these things will happen! No mention of what happens to female slaves whilst they are menstruating.
6) People sleep standing up. A lot.
7) No mention of contraception or pregnancy as a result of rape, or children (other than the slaves) and the psychological effects on them from living in such an environment.
8) No mention of the after affects of abuse for the slaves or the masters.
9) Far too much spanking and crying. It gets very boring very fast and continues throughout the second book. I want to read the third and last book for closure because I have OCD but I know there will be more spanking and more crying and I cant bear the repetition of it.
11) The word 'Paroxysm' is over used, both in this book and the next.
12) Unrealistic female orgasms achieved by penetration alone and men having multiple orgasms frequently.
13) Far too much whispering. The characters in this novel 'whisper' so often I'm surprised they hear one another. Either Anne Rice whispers a lot and considers it normal or she ran out of synonyms for said.

Conclusion:
The novel is well written, as any offering from Rice ought to be, and its certainly engaging, but there are far too many obvious faults to make it an overall enjoyable experience for me. Towards the end of this book the only fantasy I was having was of Beauty finally growing a spine and murdering literally every other character in the book in a Tarantino inspired bloodbath.

I read the first 10 pages before returning ... in which the 'Prince' rapes Sleeping Beauty in order to wake her and then forces her to be a naked sex slave, attending dinner with her father ... without any clothes on.

I understand being a submissive - but there is a difference between that and when a woman is forced to be a sex slave following rape.

No - totally not ok.

This novel was absolute rubbish. It does not even deserve 1 star. This Author should be banned from writing. It is that bad. The most disgusting part was when an old man touched the beauty's private region and got pleasure out of it. I only read a few chapters, really could not understand moral of the story. It was repetitive... beauty walks around naked, get spanked and adores her prince who tortures her. What a pathetic being. And a pathetic writer (not even considered an Author)

I first read this book roughly 20 years ago, and im about to read it again with my partner.
The wonderful thing about reading, desire and fetishes is that aome can stay in your mind and some can be explored with lovers. If you dont like something, you have that freedom.
The series has been a wonderfully erotic read and a door to pleasure.
I find Anne Rices early work very good. I enjoy her writing style.

This book was terrible. Terribly written no story line and just full of hitting it’s really weird. For an erotic novel there’s actually very little sex and just a lot of hitting so if you’re into that thing you might like it but it just got a bit too weird for me. I had no clue what was going on- it’s nothing really to do with sleeping beauty other than the first 2 pages.
