Overall a fun solo roleplaying experience!
4 stars for kids and teens, 3 stars for adults.
The urban environment was creative, varied, and interesting. The simple battle system works great for those familiar with roleplaying games (RPGs). Tracking the increase and decrease of stamina, luck, gold, gear, interesting items acquired that may be useful later - all a familiar concept for RPG players.
What could be better: there were a few areas of the quest where I felt railroaded into an unhappy ending (booted out of the city, the quest has ended). There should always be a way out and there wasn't always one. I also sometimes missed the option to easily return to a main crossroads to choose different paths (once I've finished one path). Occasionally the game chose for me - "you decide to go North" - perhaps needed to simplify the game, but I'd rather have choice. There were also some random choices, with no hints, that ended up with your success or failure (death) as the consequence. That's cheap! The end game (hunting for the villain), unlike the city environment, didn't seem very creative or interesting. And finally, the book has large font and is not long (total of 400 entries/paragraphs). I played the whole adventure in about two hours or less. I was expecting something a little more involved.
Again, overall a fun romp.
