Southern Arcana book #4

Kat Gabriel's empathic ability is no gift--it's a deadly weapon. She's used it once, in a bloody confrontation to save Andrew Callaghan's life. Now she bears the inescapable weight of those deaths--and aches for the loss of the easy relationship she once shared with Andrew. Unleashing her power may have saved his life, but it couldn't save his humanity. Or their friendship.

Since the attack that turned him into a werewolf, Andrew's sole focus has been on making himself stronger. Pushing Kat away hurt like hell, but she doesn't need a friend. She needs a protector strong enough to shield her from the supernatural world that forced her to kill. Strong enough to resist their volatile connection.

As Kat's quest to understand the violent legacy of her past leads her into the darkest underbelly of the psychic world, Andrew is at her side. Yet every step forward rips open old emotional wounds and shakes his control. Where they're headed, distractions of any kind can be fatal--especially when the greatest threat they pose is to each other.

5.0 out of 5 stars Creative Deeds Reads Review 2 April 2016

4 1/2 to 5... only because Andrew and Kat drove me nuts! ;)

So, it's been a while. Since 2013 to be exact... Yikes! Yep, that's when I read Deadlock, the third book in Moira Roger's Southern Arcana series. I could come up with an excuse for that time lapse I suppose, but honestly, there isn't a good one, especially since I love this series. *sigh*

Saying that Kat and Andrew have a history is putting it mildly. Kat has had a crush on him since before the tragedy that tore them apart. Kat was afraid to be near anyone and so was Andrew. They were both afraid that they couldn't keep an handle on the power that they spent 24/7 keeping in check. The down side was that they were making each other and themselves miserable trying to keep their distance. In Cipher, they had no choice and Andrew was determined to keep Kat safe, whether he was ready to be close to her or not.

Yeah, this romance was a long time coming, but there was a lot more to this story than that. Politics, mystery and an unexpected enemy that proves to be more dangerous than any of them could imagine. Kat learns more about her past and her heritage and not everyone makes it out in one piece, physically or emotionally. Which means I really need to get my hands on Impulse sooner rather than later. I don't think I can wait another three years to find out what happens next.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kat's story 9 March 2013

Even though this fourth book in the series tackles the difficult and complex story of Kat and Andrew, it is Kat's story of reaching past runaway emotion to the actual feelings flowing between them. She has loved him for years, but lost him in an attack which almost took his life and turned him into a wolf. In protecting him she lashed out with her empathic power and killed their attackers. In the aftermath, he hurt her in his need to protect, unable to temper his new powers. So to protect her from himself, he turned away from her, locking them both in a form of emotional half life, unable to bridge the gap that keeps them in a cycle of avoidance. Kat's search for what happened to her mother leads her to a psychic cult, however, and Andrew assigns himself as her bodyguard. But just when they think they have taken care of the threat, they find they have fallen for an old trick and the danger to Kat has never been greater. The Rogers duo has written another winner. Their story and relationship building is in a class of it's own. I love the series.
3.0 out of 5 stars Fun, fast read if you like werewolves 31 October 2016

Fun, fast read if you like werewolves, wizards, psychics, etc. A little something for everyone! I could have done without quite so much explicit sex and language. Leave a little something to the imagination, please. I have read the entire series and they all have a lot of explicit sex with a little bondage and language that became a little boring. I started skipping those frequent episodes and moving on to the story line. They are escapist literature that is fun after a long day when you really don't want anything too serious that you have to think about.
3.0 out of 5 stars I was anticipating this book but in the end I was a little disappointed. 24 December 2012

I was anticipating this book but in the end I was a little disappointed.

We've struggled with Kat and Andrew from the begining of the series, we've seen Kat being a fool in love and Andrew feeling overwhelmed by it.

We've seen them survive loss and pain.

We've seen them driven apart from sorrow and doubts.

In the first half of their book Kat and Andrew's passion blooms, her empathy is magnifing every single touch and every single emotion and Andrew cannot keep away. But the doubts for themselves, the fear for each other and the guilt is too much, way too much.
I wanted to slap them and eventually I felt disconected with them because of the constant misery of their situation.

"I've killed someone."
"I can hurt you."
"I'm afraid I'm going to hurt you."
"And what if I hurt you unintentionally?"
"What if I kill more people?"

But as always with these books the secondary characters play a major role in the story line, I loved Patric and I want to know more about Anna and Sera.

This was an ok read that matches the effect of the previous books the dissapointment was clearly my own issue.

That's it I honestly LOVE, LOVE this author and this series!!! The characters are so real that at times I forget that they are not real. I believe that makes this author one of the best I have read in all the shifter series and believe me that is alot. So the only thing I can say to all the other readers is READ, READ and READ some more.
