Christmas Kisses on Hollywell Hill: A dusting of snow, and a sprinkling of magic is all it takes to make one Happy Ever After in this wonderful Christmas romance. Kindle Edition
Even better she bonds with a handsome chef over a piece of squid at her local supermarket, although sadly romance is the last thing on Jake Levy's mind.
He has a Christmas deadline, an ex-wife to mourn and lots of emotional baggage to drag around. He certainly doesn’t have time for romance and even if he did he wouldn’t fall for someone like Kirsty who craves the limelight: been there, done that.
A misunderstanding leads Jake to offer Kirsty a job in his new restaurant and she takes it purely to convince him that she’s the girl of his dreams.
Her charm offensive begins to work but while he’s cooking up a storm she’s secretly sparkling under the spotlight – until her cover is busted.
The fallout is catastrophic, but as they say in Luvvie Land, the show must go on, even if Kirsty is terrified that she's taken her last curtain call and ruined her chance for love.
Read on and immerse yourself in this delightful winter romance as the snow starts to fall and Christmas day becomes a magical reality.
This gorgeous love story is loosely set in St Albans only half an hour away from London, where chef Jake relocates having lost everything that was dear to him. Enter actress, Kirsty Castille, who lives mostly in a world of her own until she meets Jake and realises she'd quite like to share the real world with him. If only he thought the same, things would be wonderful.
Lose yourself in this festive, feel-good, winter romance with a touch of humour.
"A heart-warming and funny romance – with a delicious hero. Loved the characters – loved the humour."
"A gorgeous Christmas romance with two very likeable characters, an interesting backdrop of the theatre, and a restaurant set in the stylish town of St Albans."

I don’t even know how to talk about this book because one of the issues in the books, the cheating of Jake’s ex-wife, hit home to me while I was reading this. Until reading this book I’d never met anyone who’d been cheated on so the “I can’t believe someone would do that to someone else” was all hypothetical.
The emotional impact of discovering that the person you love with all your heart, who you thought loved you back, is cheating on you is incomprehensible. The lasting impact of this is what Jake is going through — the mistrust, the need to drown your sorrows and the feeling that you’re not good enough for the one you love — and we see this in how he interacts with Kirsty.
I didn’t have much left of the book when I found out about cheating and it put a whole new spin on how I perceived Jake’s actions. I went from thinking he was overreacting and being a bit of a dick, to wondering how he’d stayed so calm and could handle starting a new business and starting a new business.
Writing this review has me thinking about what I found out and I can’t help but feel horrible about that situation. I can truly say I loved this book. Yet at the same time it’s going to be tainted with that memory forever because of the emotional impact it’s had on me.

Seriously, I was drooling like Homer Simpson over a bag of donuts! (*whispers* Now there’s an image for you...) All those yummy food descriptions – minus the sweetbreads and pig’s trotters, of course *bleurgh* – really made my belly rumble.
Whaaa? You thought I was drooling over Jake?
Maybe I was, maybe I wasn’t.
Okay, okay. *holds hands up* I totally was. Who wouldn’t? *shrugs* A gorgeous man (those curls!) – plus, he can cook. I, for one, was sold!
But sheesh, did Jake’s issues have issues. Granted, he is man with a lot on his plate (hehe!). Starting over is never easy (opening a new restaurant and rebuilding reputations just for a start!), and you can understand why even the whisper of romance has him running scared given past events. However, that does not entitle one to a free pass to turn into a twatwaffle!
Strong words, you say? *huffs* You wouldn’t have wanted to be around me from Chapter Twenty-Six onwards then *winks*.
Kirsty is sweet, kooky and wears her heart on her sleeve. Some of my favourite snort-giggle moments in this story were courtesy of her. Just awaiting her big break and unlucky in love, Jake is a welcome bright spot in her life. Mixed signals, and half-truths ensue as Kirsty and Jake’s budding romance starts to sizzle.
CKOHH is my seventh festive read of the year. As much as I loved this story (and I did!), I felt like I missed some of the Christmassy goodness. Yeah, yeah – I know I’m too greedy at times *hides face*.
Jackie Ladbury is a new-to-me-author (thanks for intro Rachel) – so many authors so little time, lol. Although, if CKOHH is anything to go by, I look forward to reading up another book by her in the not so distant future.
Right, as my OCD can’t abide odd numbers, I’m off to dive into another 🎄 read!
I’ll try not to give away too much of the plot, as I don’t want you to miss out on reading this one for yourself, but when Kirsty and Jake meet, in the most unexpected of circumstances, in the supermarket of all places, it seems destined to be ‘weird place, wrong time’. Jake has more baggage than Terminal 4 at Heathrow airport and a lot of unresolved issues with his estranged wife. He hasn’t got time for a relationship, he’s a chef run off his feet, putting his all into starting a new business. And even if he was prepared to risk another relationship, it wouldn’t be with someone like Kirsty…
Kirsty is such a good fun character and provides lots of the laughs in this wonderful book, but she’s as scatty as she is delightful. Not only that, she’s an actress chasing her big break – which might just be over the horizon, as she’s finally been promoted from pantomime horse to the lead role in a musical.
I won’t say anymore for fear of giving away spoilers, but suffice it to say that if you read this book you’ll be left with a smile on your face, an ache in your side from laughing and a warm fuzzing feeling that can only come from the perfect ending. Christmas Kisses at Hollywell Hills is a funny, feel good, festive treat and I know I’m going to want to read this one again and again.
Kirsty is an actress who just can't seem to catch a break. Until, that is, she meets Jake Levy, at which point everything begins to change - for both of them.
Jake is really struggling, having had a terribly rough deal at the hands of his estranged wife, and he's trying to pull his life back together by starting over with a new business.
Jake - not surprisingly - has serious trust issues. He's also feeling pretty low and not really in the festive mood as he pines for his wife and the life they had together.
Kirsty couldn't be more different from his successful, organised wife. She's funny, self-deprecating and a bit chaotic. Life with her would be a nightmare. Wouldn't it?
Jake isn't ready to move on from his marriage, but Kirsty has a way of getting under his skin and, after all, it is Christmas, and the most amazing things can happen at this magical time of year ...
Honestly, I laughed all the way through this book yet, at the same time, the author managed to make my heart ache for the wounded hero and the scatty but thoroughly lovable heroine.
This novel is a real festive treat and I can't wait to read what's next from this talented writer.
times, in that someone with plenty of talent just doesn't get the recognition she deserves and has to resort to rubbish jobs just to make ends meet. Nice to see that her fortunes do change. I would recommend this book which can be read at any time of the year.
Much loved characters full of life and colour and not your usual boy meets girl happy ever after stuff! The couple in question face challenges even the hardest of hearts wouldn't fail to sympathise with!
