The reality of the Christian doctrine suggested in the title of the e-book, "Christ Our Penal Substitute", is well expressed by R. L. Dabney.

From chapter 2: "As the church of all ages has understood the Scriptures, the whole plan of gospel redemption rests upon this substitution of Christ as its corner-stone. He who overthrows the corner-stone overthrows the building."

From Chapter 9: "Therefore, the main thing which we have to allege in support of our thesis is this: that the doctrine of Christ's substitution under our penal obligations, and the imputation of his satisfaction for guilt to be the ground of our justification, is, either implicitly or expressly, taught throughout the Scriptures."

The largest portion of this book discusses and then refutes those arguments brought forth by those who object to this doctrine.

Since there is no active table of contents provided, it is suggested that on the initial reading of the text, the reader establish a table of contents with locations in a computer spread-sheet so as to facilitate later readings of this material.
