Fun banter in husband hunting story
5 May 2018
The best thing about this book is the hot and cold friendship between Pixie, and her former guardian Jack. Pixie has financial troubles and her solution is to marry a wealthy man. Pixie and Jack’s sister write a list of eligible men, but much to Jack’s chagrin Pixie leaves him off because he is ‘too old’. The tension between Jack and Pixie is entertaining, with great banter and games of one upmanship. In the background is Jack’s sister, a widow who has been badly hurt.
The emotions between the main characters are complex. As Pixie works her way through her eligible suitor list, Jack becomes more and more annoyed. His complacency is undermined by cheeky Pixie’s defiance. Pixie in the meantime is far more angry with Jack than she needs to be. While the plot is standard HR, the journey of the characters makes this a much more original book than most. Highly recommended.
