I really enjoyed this book. If you liked reading Philip Pullman’s dark material trilogy, then this one will speak to you as well.
In a very unique writing style, this new fresh author weaves intricate tapestry, cleverly blending fantasy, science fiction and romance genres.
The heroine is an ordinary person who finds herself in an extraordinary situation. Burdened with a new found knowledge of being prophesied to become a savior, she has to embark on a personal journey of self discovery in order to gain power, skill and allies to fight the dark forces that are about to destroy the world as we know it. Several story lines are seamlessly intertwined to eventually meet at the time of final battle of good vs. evil. There is plenty of action and suspense, there is fascinating scientific layer that would impress even Sheldon Cooper, romantic in you will rejoice over blossoming love. While all of that might be a standard formula, there is also a surprising and fresh angle that, in a way, lifts this one above the similarly themed books. There is a subtle philosophical subtext that will inspire you to explore your own feelings about human nature, universe, religion and destiny.
If you are anything like me, this book will grab your attention from the first chapter. You will find yourself engaged and invested, staying up late, because you can’t wait to find out what happens next. And when you get to the end, you will be curious, as this is a first book in intended trilogy.
