This cutting board is very poorly made for the price! I would not recommend it. I would return it for a refund, except the last item I had to return cost me over $15 to ship back!
The pictures makes this over the sink cutting board look better than it really is.It is not varnished and looks like a piece of pine.I'm not even sure if this is made out of hardwood.Cheap Cheap cheap!I feel ripped off.
I read a lot of the negative reviews of this cutting board before I purchased but decided to take a chance anyway. I have an 8ft x 10ft kitchen with very limited counter space so an over sink cutting board that is secure is a necessity for preparing meals, which is why i purchased this item. Upon opening the box I could tell this board would need some work before it was ready for use. First of all the wood is rather soft so I'm not thinking this will not become a family heirloom that will be handed down through the generations but if it lasts a couple years I'll be pleased. The wood is sanded smooth and like most wood cutting boards not finished so you will need to oil it with a food grade oil. I chose mineral oil and applied several heavy coats letting letting the oil soak into the wood for 30 minutes between coats. This will help the wood be water repellent which is probably important to prevent it from warping after just a few uses. My kitchen sink is small and this board, though small itself, was just a tad bit too big. Here the soft wood proved to be a benefit as it was easily paired down at the corners with my trusty Swiss army knife and rounded with a hand file. The wire basket seems flimsy and to be honest I will probably never use the thing, just put a bowl in the sink to catch and chopped vegetables or fruit. After these 2 modifications it is working pretty well for me.
