Product description

Product Description

Introducing book 1 in the Travis & Viola saga of the Checkmate Duet Series from a secret duo under the USA Today bestselling author pseudonym, Kennedy Fox!
Checkmate: This is War is an enemies to lovers romance that'll have you crying with laughter one moment and screaming in frustration the next--but you'll be begging to play the game with The King.
Game on.

***

Travis King is the worst kind of a**hole.
He taunts me for being a good girl and mocks my high standards.
He's cruel, crass, and has enough confidence to last two lifetimes.
And I hate him.

It wouldn't matter so much if he were avoidable.
But considering he's my older brother's best friend and roommate, I see him more than I'd ever want to.His sculpted abs and gorgeous eyes are wasted on such an arrogant man, which makes me hate him even more.

Even though I've had a crush on him since I was ten, the feelings weren't mutual and he's made that very clear. He's always loved getting under my skin and one night against my better judgment, I let him in my bed. I've succumbed to his manw**re ways, but that doesn't change a thing.

Because the King is about to get played at his own game--and lose.
Checkmate.

*Recommend for ages 18+ due to sexual content and adult language.*

**This is book 1 in the Checkmate series and in the Travis & Viola saga--an enemies to lovers romance. This can be read as a standalone duet or after the other duet, but recommended to read in order.**

Hot damn Travis King! This book is absolute royalty from the very start. Viola and Travis have been friends since they were young and then one event turns them against each other. Years later these two are spending time in the same house together for a few weeks and that's when things get good. With Travis being the ladies man and knowing it he always gets what he wants, Viola is the smart bookworm focused on school and keeping to herself. When these two battle you can feel the sexual tension and you just want to scream for them to get together. This friends to lovers story is steamy and leaves you aching for more, cannot wait to get my hands on book 2 of this series.

The reviews were so positive for this two book romance. So trusting was I of the reviewers that I purchased both books. What I purchased was a two part celebration of dreadful writing, breathtaking immature dialogue and a childish romance. This agony continued for two books! Viola was bitchy, tedious and unlikable. Travis was simply not all that interesting as the hero. If you enjoy mature romance that has great dialogue that hits all the right romantic notes as you work your way to a happy ever after then this book is not for you. I encourage to download a free sample of both books to see for yourselves how excruciatingly bad this writing is.

I wasn't sure what to expect with Checkmate, but from the moment I dived in I was hooked.

Viola and Travis' relationship is volatile at the best of time, but when they are roomies for a couple of weeks, things really do get explosive!

The constant bickering, snarky and at times downright mean words is their norm... you know, fighting as foreplay.

Beneath it all we just know that they are hot for each other, and they are missing the best friends they used to be - even if poor Travis doesn't understand why Viola hates him so much now!

Ugh, I just wanted them to stop fighting and get on with the sexy times! But Travis doesn't always make the best decisions, and now those bad choices are coming home to roost and mess up what may or may not be happening with his Viola.

There are some great secondary characters - Viola's brother/Travis' best friend Drew and Viola's best friend are the perfect balance for the madness that is V&T's world.

And just when I thought that maybe, just maybe that they had got their stuff sorted out...

We were hit with one hell of a cliffhanger! Something happened that I sure as hell was not expecting!

But never fear, it is not long until the next book is out.

I really did enjoy the writing of this secretive duo.... so who do you think they could be?

This book would be on my MUST READ list for 2016.

I saw a lot of teasers for this book and they had me hooked. Well, they didn't mislead in any way & from the first few pages I knew I was reading a book that I was going to love.

Written from dual POV's from each of our leads, Viola Fisher & Travis King are completely entertaining, frustrating, challenging and sizzling hot. The smart quips, the sassy one-liners, the juvenile pranks - all scream 'unrequited attraction' and you just know when the power kegs gets the right number of spark things are going to explode in a big way. And boy, do they!

Smart, strong and bright as a 1000watt bulbs, Viola is the type of heroine I love reading about. She gives as good as she gets, and in this case, sometimes better. Her one-liners, actions and reactions to Travis King are completely entertaining & you can't help but root for her to 'win'.

Travis is THAT guy. You know the one, we all do... but there is just something completely likeable about him and as soon as he pulls his head outta his butt, you completely want him to 'win' too!

The thing is - what winning looks like to Viola and what winning looks like to Travis just might be a completely different picture than the other thinks.

Can not wait for Checkmate: This is Love to get the continuation of this story!

A good read, but I'm a reader who LOATHES a non disclosed cliffhanger. Personally, I'd rather wait until the sequel is available and buy and read them together. MY preference, just wish I knew.

That being said, this was still an enjoyable read !!
