HASH(0xad65b5e8) out of 5 stars A new author to follow! 16 June 2015

When you find yourself a good book, you just consume it in a matter of hours. That was what happened with me reading Chasing Rainbows by Linda Oaks.

It told of a troubled girl named Addie who was struggling to deal with traumatic events which happened in her life and the coping mechanisms she stumbled into to prevent herself from completely losing it. Mental health issues are such a touchy subject to tackle since most people are just not that well-informed so they react negatively towards it.

I applaud Linda Oaks for managing to convey an honest view about mental health and also by giving an accurate description of a troubled young woman. The emotions in the story were so raw that I felt like I was sharing them with the characters rather than being a mere spectator. Addie’s pain was so real I ached for her throughout the book.

Thankfully though, it’s not all about hardship. We see love and support from true friends…and we see Jake. I am more than a little in love with Jake. He’s just…divine. I’ll stop there. Side note to Linda: Don’t forget to send me the deleted scenes for *cough* research *cough* 

My only issue with the book was that I wanted to see more of the twins. I feel like there’s more to them than meets the eye: another pair of troubled teens. Hopefully, Miss Oaks will give us another peek into their lives.

All in all a very good read, I finished the book with a contented smile on my face and a light-hearted feeling one only gets from reading a well-written book. I’ve stopped following romance for a while now…I think I’ve just been converted back!

HASH(0xad6264c8) out of 5 stars Could not stop reading 25 August 2015

I was given a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review. Chasing Rainbows by Linda Oaks, is a fantastic read. Addison is dealing with the aftermath of her sister’s death. She is easily one of the most relatable characters in this story. There were times where I wanted to hug her and comfort her.

Linda Oaks created a story that has relatable characters and real life issues that should be talked about in households. I started the story late Sunday night and stayed up until early Monday morning to finish it. The dialogue was realistic as was the situations that Addison had to face.

The storyline flowed very easily. Like I said I was drawn into the story from the first page. There are a couple of characters that I just wanted to slap but that is due to the beautiful storytelling of Linda Oaks. There were times where I cried during the story, so definitely have tissues on standby.

I will definitely recommend Chasing Rainbows to others. I give it 5/5 Platypires.

HASH(0xad81cdf8) out of 5 stars Could Not Put This Book Down 1 July 2015

I really had plans to savor this one and take my time reading it.

But I ended up devouring it in one sitting.

Addie, the main character, was beautifully developed and interesting. The author handles the twists and turns of a emotionally troubled teenage girl in a way that is both believable and arresting. I loved Addie- her quiet strength, her devotion to her friends, the bits of humor that peek through. I felt her pain and her loneliness vividly. This is a story that touches on mental health issues with both sensitivity and a rawness. The emotional roller coaster of high school, relationships, love, and loss, Linda Oaks captured it perfectly.

And speaking of perfect...I feel like there should be more Jakes in the world. <3

HASH(0xadbb5a74) out of 5 stars Thank goodness for her two best friends who love her dearly and would do anything ... 26 April 2016
By Itsy Bitsy Book Bits - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
I did not want to stop reading this book. As we all know finding your way in high school is very difficult and being a teenage girl trying to find herself makes it even harder! That is what Addie faces everyday and more. She has had a tragedy in her life that has changed everything including her family. Her Mom and Dad are absent parents who seem to have forgotten they have a daughter. She never sees them or talks to them. Thank goodness for her two best friends who love her dearly and would do anything for Addie. When the day is over she goes to work and goes home and that is when her misery and loneliness starts to swallow her whole, the quite darkness and despair is more than she can handle. There has to be a way to relieve the pain and soon she finds it but now there is another secret she has to keep hidden from everyone. As she spends time with her best friend Kara and her boyfriend Devon she watches them and wants what they have. Kara is a charismatic girl who loves the color goddess pink and doesn’t care what anyone thinks. Devon is a very good looking guy who is older and has his own business. To Addie they have it all. When a new boy comes to school, Addie thinks maybe things will start looking up and she can make a new friend in this boy named Chase. From the first day Chase seems interested in her and she is excited, It comes to light very quickly that he has a twin brother Chance and together they make it their mission to make Addie’s life difficult because they think it is funny, but when Addie finds out that they are mean and cruel, she decides it is time to run.
Devon has a friend named Jake and Jake has a crush on Addie and wants to date her but is Addie ready and can she keep all her secrets from him? You have to read this book to find all the answers, you won’t be sorry! Linda Oaks is a very good author. You feel what she writes like you are there and not just reading words. Thank you for sharing your talent.
