When I started reading this I couldn't believe how immature it was and was sure it was written by a juvenile but no on reading the authors bio I was amazed to find it was an adult who wrote this. The one line that really got me was when the alien warriors walked in and said to the human woman, 'Oh great you killed all the bad guys'... Jesus how bad is that?
I had assumed that this series was affiliated to S.E Smiths books Magic, New Mexico as she seems to be co-writing many of the Magic New Mexico books with other authors, I really hope that this isn't one of those books because S E Smith is too good to get her name dragged down by this.
I'll not drone on about it but will mention a few things, in chapter the 'hero' tells the 'heroine' that if they have sex they are mated for life by chapter 15 he seems to forget this and hopes she will say yes when he asks her to 'marry/mate' with him for life and is worried she will say no. The idea of the barbed penis was stolen from the New Species series by and appeared to be thrown in, like most of the other bits and pieces, at a whim without it giving any sustenance to the story-line. As I said bits and pieces of other books I have read appeared every now and then and were never spoken of again.
The way I look at this is that this 'author' is in fact, like myself, a reader and she decided that she could write a story but then wrote down all the things she had read over the years thinking it would make a story.
My advice is ... a reader is not a writer... stick to what you know
