The Charmer’s Gambit is the much anticipated second instalment in the Mershano Empire Series by Lexi C. Foss. After reading the first book in this sublime series, The Prince’s Game, I was hooked and could not wait to continue on to book two. I had so many ideas and possibilities swirling around in my mind, but what Ms. Foss produced eclipsed anything that I had come up with. As with the first book, this one was so sexy- Ms. Foss building the chemistry and sexual tension between Rachel and Will to blistering levels. I was riveted to the pages, on the edge of my seat as I read along. There was intrigue, suspense, an element of threatening danger, some mystery, drama, and a wonderful, swoony romance.
Rachel and Will are such wonderful characters. Their story lived up to all my expectations, and then some. They bring something different, and yet just as exciting as the first book, to the series. I am in awe of Ms. Foss, she is such a consummate writer- I really can’t wait to read her next book.
I can not recommend this book, and series, enough. One of the best writers/series/books that I have read this year! It should be on everyone’s ‘must read’ list!
Thank you, Ms. Foss!

The Charmers Gambit (Mershano Empire Book 2)
By Lexi C Foss
Another enjoyable book by Lexi. It compliments Sarah an Evans story.
AS we originally found out Sarah enlisted Rachels help in looking at a contract that she had to sign for a dating show. On this show Sarah met Evan and we know how their characters worked out. If you haven’t read book on you really need it, it’s fantastic.
Anyway, now Evans cousin Will is trying to get Rachel to work for him but each time he proposes an idea he gets a flat no from Rachel. So, what does Will do, he goes to the firm Rachel works for to hire them as his client with the proviso that Rachel be the lead attorney. The firm of course agree although reluctantly to have Rachel is such an elevated position. Rachel stunned at this turn of events is sure that Will has only done this to get close to her. Angry she lets him have it and when she’s finished going on at him he gives her the choice of staying as part of his legal team or she can leave.
In this matter what will Rachel decide?
To confuse her life more her ex fiancée Ryan re-enters the scene expecting to pick up where they left off six months ago. He has told her that the wedding is back on basically whether she likes it or not. To scared to anger him she goes along with what he is saying. But what worries Rachel the most is how he seems to know where she is and who she is with at any given time
Rachel has choices to make, one choice will help enhance her career the other will ruin her life forever. Which way will she go?

Ever since Will met Rachel for the first time, he’s been fascinated with her. He will do anything to have her by his side for the present and foreseeable future❣️However, Rachel once gave herself to a powerful man and she’s still trying to recover from it even three years on😢 But she could never have predicted Will’s determination and charming charisma would break down all the walls she’s built to protect herself.....until now❤️
Loved this story and very intrigued with Kincaid and the hints about a new series😁 Thank you to Lexi for my advanced copy which I leave my honest review🥰

I have not read the first book and you do not need to, this is standalone. Will Mershano hooked me from the first chapter. He has this remarkable strength and integrity and when you meet Rachel you know he will be her warrior in the end.
The build-up with Ryan playing his games is intense and I was simply so stressed as each chapter progresses as you know there is going to be some explosive moments in this story.
Chapter 16 is a standout when the dynamic changes between Will and Rachel and his perceptiveness that something is amiss in Rachel’s life.
The author wove a tale of taking a chance on new love despite barriers no woman wants to endure. The first half of this book I was on tenterhooks waiting for the past to collide with her future.
Will was perfect for her, his ability to read her body language and slowly bring her to the belief she could face her demons with his trust was brilliant.
So many moments of happiness in this book but also despair that made you appreciate the light. Rachel was so intelligent and her banter with Will in the professional sense was integral to this story and their growth as a couple.
Towards the end when her brother and his friend join the story it definitely made me want to continue the journey with all these characters. Upon finishing I immediately went and added the next two books in this series along with a new story on Kincaid.

Wine-making, sunshine, the South of France and Will Mershano – who could ask for more?
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 9 December 2017Verified Purchase
I admit it - I was counting down the days until the release of this book. Why, you may ask? Because my favourite character from its predecessor, The Prince’s Game, was the character of Will. He came across as a playful, loyal, persistent, successful wine-maker. I was interested to find out more about him and The Charmer’s Gambit did not disappoint.
This story covers the journey of Rachel and Will, and the difficulties that arise as a consequence of Will’s pursuit of Rachel. Rachel is great – I want to be her friend. She comes across as loyal, intelligent, hard-working and a genuinely nice person. Unfortunately, she has made a very bad relationship decision in the past (haven’t we all?) and he simply refuses to take the hint. Despite the fact that she is constantly harassed by her ex, I found it refreshing that she reached out and asked for help, rather than trying to do everything herself and messing up / or not as the case may be. The result was a strengthening relationship developing between Rachel and Will. United, they were able to confront and resolve problems and deepen their own relationship ties as a consequence. The chemistry between Rachel and Will is electric. You really root for them and want them to work it out.
Now for Will. What can I say? The man is wonderful - I can’t even discuss his cowboy hat right now. Not only is he handsome, with an incredible physique, he is intelligent, and he has built up a successful wine company from scratch. Ultimate respect. He isn’t scared to get his hands dirty either. It gets better. He decides to purchase a French vineyard, so not only do we have wine-making, we have French wine-making. The French wine drinker in me loves you right now, Lexi C Foss. My life is complete.
In The Charmer’s Gambit, Lexi has written a robust story, made more interesting due to it’s darker elements, as well as seamlessly introducing characters who will, no doubt, feature in their own future books. Her world building is a strong characteristic of her story telling – you do genuinely believe in and immerse yourself into this world – I mean, why wouldn’t you want to escape into the sunshine in the South of France?
Her villain is deliciously vile. He makes your skin crawl beautifully. No shades of grey for this one – he is bad through and through.
This book also has pace and it is incredibly gripping. You want to know more. You want more of Rachel, more of Will, more of their fun, games and banter. Just more. I didn’t want to put the book down, and I definitely suffered from a book hangover.
So, the question remains - will this book become one of the re-reads that I only reserve for very few authors? Definitely. I can’t wait to enjoy their journey all over again. PS, I am already looking forward to Garrett’s story too, as he’s definitely going to be a tricky one….looks like you’ve got your work cut out for you Lexi.

loved it, a charmer in the very best way!

What can I say, I loved this book, it hooked me from the start.
The first book I read by Lexi C Foss was The Prince’s Game, the predecessor to this and first in the Mershano series. I never thought I'd love a book about a reality TV show, but the author has such a fantastic writing style, it draws you in and holds you tight. When I realised The Charmers Gambit (which can be read as a standalone) was to be about Evan's cousin Will and Sarah's best friend Rachel, it was an absolute must read for me, as are all this authors books now.
Rachel, a dedicated, talented lawyer, is running from her past, but the past has a habit of catching up and threatens any form of peace or happiness. She has no room for men or relationships but when she meets Will Mershano whilst checking through a contract as a favour for her best friend, she starts to realise he is a man that won't be pushed away and won't give up on her no matter what.
I loved the banter between Will and Rachel, the story builds throughout as the chemistry between them heats up and the danger increases threatening them both. Will is powerful, rich and unrelenting, the kind of man Rachel is both attracted to and terrified of. Can she overcome the darkness of her past as it collides with the present and learn to trust the one man who wants the very best for her?
There are a lot of potential book boyfriends out there, but every now and then a very special one comes along with that something extra. I have to admit, Will has stolen a little piece of my heart. What a perfect mix of alpha, dominant, protective, caring, observant, gorgeous and sinfully hot sexiness he is.
I loved The Charmers Gambit, it was just fab and I am totally in love with Will. I loved Rachel too (but definitely not in the same way) they were well suited which resulted in a completely unputdownable book for me. Lexi C. Foss has an amazing talent for writing and I highly recommend this book. Five hot Will Mershano stars!!!

Ahhh, Will Mershano.
I could leave my review there, and that would say everything about how I felt about our hero, but that would be short-changing this wonderful novel that I absolutely devoured in one sitting.
Will is a tenacious wine-merchant millionaire who has his sights set on uptight lawyer, Rachel. But unlike a lot of guys who'd barrel in there and probably ruin their chances to win the girl, Will plays the long game. And my goodness, the clever begger, he ends up with Rachel eating out of his hand and chasing him!
But Rachel has a secret, an ex who still thinks she's his. He's creepy, he's rotten to the core, he's no blooming Will Mershano that's for sure!
Slowly, Will teases from Rachel the real person beneath the veneer she's carefully constructed, and my goodness, I love him for it.
I don't want to say too much more as that would spoil the plot, but this book gave me all the feels. And even though it's in a series, you don't have to have read the prequel (The Prince's Game) to enjoy it. However, do go and read that first book, because it's a really great read.
But for me, The Charmer's Gambit is a step up. It's wonderful. Grab yours now. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Will Mershano....
Will. Mershano......
If I left my review at that, I'm pretty sure you guys who have read it will readily agree that nothing more needs to be said in retrospect. I mean it's Will Mershano. Actually, let me try to up it a little. Will Mershano and a vineyard. Actually I bet I can do one better. Will Mershano, a vineyard and two wine glasses. But you know what would make that scenario absolute perfection? A naked Will Mershano, a vineyard and two wine glasses. With me as his love interest.
Sadly, that's not the case, well the me part anyway. No his love interest in this is the kind of uptight Rachel. Although, to be fair, I can't even hate her. She's the kind of woman who you want to hate but can't. Both of them together just fits. To quote Phoebe Buffay, she's his lobster and vice versa. The Charmer's Gambit has a slight dark theme in it. Rachel has a past that she can't seem to escape. Wherever she turns and becomes even vaguely happy, it's always there waiting to pull her back down. Enter Will. He helps Rachel see that there is a way to escape, she just has to take a leap of faith.
I'm going to admit and say I think I prefer this story to that of The Prince's Game and I really loved that story. In TCG however I just felt it was more rugged and growly. Not to impugn that Evan wasn't a hard worker, he was. I just felt that Will was more of a manual labourer than Evan and it's a quality that I'm attracted to.
The storyline itself just popped. I had this mental image of me being there. I felt that I was dealing with these situations and feelings myself. It's a great thing when an author can make you believe that you're part of the story.
I really enjoyed reading this story and Will and Rachel's journey. I cannot wait to see where the author takes the next story.

I was really looking forward to this book as I've loved everything that Lexi C Foss has done so far, and the Charmer's Gambit didn't disappoint. It follows on from the Prince's game although you don't have to have read it to enjoy this book. Lexi draws you in from the first sentence, spinning her charms across the pages as she gets the characters burrowed deep down in your head and your heart. I have to admit I enjoyed the plot of the Prince's game more than this one, but that doesn't detract from two amazing characters with a love story of their own to tell. Loved it and can't wait to see where she takes us next.
