Product Description

Book 2 of the hit Charlie Smithers Collection

Flashman's alter ego returns!

Four years after Charlie returns from Africa, having survived a charging rhinoceros, ravenous crocodiles, fierce Maasai warriors, and evil slavers (not to mention inadvertently discovering the source of the Nile,) we find him in India. Yes, that's right, his master, Lord Brampton, accompanied by his beloved guns, appalling aim, and the ever-faithful Charlie Smithers, has decided to go adventuring again.

Unfortunately not everything goes according to plan and, in an effort to prevent a war, our hero finds himself on a madcap expedition to the reclusive kingdom of Bhutan, saving the life of the ravishing Charula Khaur along the way.

With (amongst other things) ferocious tigers, sweltering jungle, snow-packed mountains, hostile natives, and the undying gratitude of a beautiful woman, Charlie has his work cut out for him!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wild and funny adventure 22 February 2015
By Kindle Customer - Published on Amazon.com

Charlie Smithers is always showing up at historical events, not necessarily changing events but always sure to bring an interesting perspective and a lot of humor to the situation, whatever it is. I couldn't put it down and was reading way past my bedtime.

5.0 out of 5 stars Charlie is a typical man living in amazing times. I felt like I was back in ... 30 November 2015

I received a free copy to write this honest review. I will admit I usually don't read this type of book but Mr. Lovatt has me hooked. Charlie is a typical man living in amazing times. I felt like I was back in 1860's India watching the struggling of the British with the different tribes of India. Mr. Lovatt did an excellent job researching and bringing this part of history alive. Looking forward to more Charlie adventures.

5.0 out of 5 stars Smithers is a real hero 9 May 2015
By King Bennett - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
I really like this style of book, a Flashman lover I enjoy all the traveling and adventure plus real history. Smithers is a different type of character than all the Flashman types that are showing up, he is a real hero, and I hope after reading both of the Smithers books that we will se more of him soon.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great recreational reading! 22 December 2015
By PK - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
This is the second Lovatt book for me and I enjoy his work. The editing needs quite a bit of help, though, as there are numerous spelling and grammatical errors in both this volume and the previous one. The characters are well-developed and described, and the plot has enough twists and turns to keep you turning the pages. Lovatt has done his historical and geographical research quite well; there are very few historical inconsistencies or omissions, but in some cases, place names are incorrect. I recommend these easy to read e-books to anyone looking for a fun and educational read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Historical Fiction AGAIN! 8 October 2015

He's done it again! What a great story that's so easy to get lost in. I like that he used regional words, yet still succinctly described everything so well. Poor Charlie! I adore him, he's become the poor uncle that's got the worst run of luck in the coolest way imaginable.

Lovatt's depth of research shows throughout the entire novel. Waiting for the next one!
