Product Description

Luke Roberts came to the small lazy town of Kilgore, Texas with one thing on his mind: Forgetting. He wanted to forget why he left. Forget those emerald green eyes that haunted his dreams. And forget how it felt to have his heart ripped out of his chest by a woman who didn’t like the fact that he had a child. It was something he’d been doing a damn fine job of doing, too. Until Reese smashed through every one of his defenses, and made him feel again.

Reese Doherty was just trying to do the best for her little girl. So she moved to the little boomtown nearly an hour from where she grew up to be the school nurse for Kilgore’s littlest people. That’s where she met him. The SWAT officer and the man that would change her life forever. The sexy man who liked to drive fast, and live life like it should be lived. He drove her crazy, and became something she could barely live without.

But Luke was a hero. A man used to risking his life to make the world a safer place. Something Reese had to decide whether she could handle or not. Preferably before her and her daughter became too attached.

Just when she’s ready to give him her whole heart, her world takes a huge hit, and everything she thought she knew wasn’t as it seemed.

Luke wasn’t a quitter, though. Damn far from it, and he’d prove to her that he’d be there when the dust settled. Whether she wanted him to be or not.

I think I'm going to like this spin off series to the Dixie Wardens. We get to meet new characters that sound intriguing and wonderful as we also get to keep in contact with our Dixie Wardens. Great book both sad and funny.

Where to start with this review – there’s so much going on this book that if you think you are in for a simple love story – you are mistake. There’s love, there’s suspense, there’s mystery, there’s heartache and there’s drama.
Reese is a single mum who is constantly being besieged by her ex-partner. Luke is a single dad who is in the same boat as Reese. Both working, both have kids, limited time for relationships but they seem to make it work.
Luke is tough talking, no nonsense, tells it like it is and has found the woman that fits all his desires. I think he was actually quite taken by how he fell in love with her even more after each interaction. Reese had me laughing in some parts by her frankness to Luke. She’s put up with enough crap from her ex-partner, she’s not about to start taking any from Luke’s ex-partner.
These two are a perfect matching. Their passion is explosive and Vale’s writing shows a great love story that can overcome just about any hurdle. There is a scene in here that made my heart stop. So much in fact, I thought ‘no – that can’t be right!’ so I went back and reread it. Yes, the heart stopped again.
If you are looking for a love story with a lot more emotional depth than what a lot of books these days are offering, this one is for you.
I was given an advance reader copy for my honest opinion.

If you have read anything by Lani Lynn Vale in the past, this one will not disappoint. I thoroughly enjoyed it, in fact my poor kids had to fend for themselves for dinner because I couldn't put it down. Even if you haven't read any of her prior work Double Tap is a great read, and I can assure you you'll be one-clicking the rest of the series, and the ones before it as soon as you're done.

3.0 out of 5 stars Convoluted 12 May 2015

It wasn't until after I finished reading "Center Mass" that I realized I had read a novel by this author over a year ago, a novel which I didn't like at all. I didn't even take into account what genre her series were. I mention this because I dived in head first with no expectations. I read a "sample" and I honestly liked what I read. Naturally I bought it. I loved what I was reading, and I loved the sexual chemistry that Reese and Luke shared. If you love reading descriptive sexcapades, this one delivers, that and they're well-written. Talk about hot and heavy. The author does a great job of building sexual tension between the H/h from when they first meet to when they have sex for the first time. It's after their first sexual encounter that the story started to go down hill for me. In fact, I found the overall tone of the novel completely changed at that point. It felt like I started reading a whole new novel. Even the writing changed somewhat. I'd say everything up until Chapter 12 read like a contemporary romance (with erotic sex) about two single parents, one a school nurse, the other a cop, both doing their best in raising their daughters. It then changed into an erotic-BDSM novel, like those written about MC-bikers except here all the men are cops. I've got nothing against erotic-BDSM novels. I've read my fair share, some that are just amazing. But here? It just didn't work for me. I wish I could explain it better. The heroine of this novel, Reese, it was like she changed into a different person. The beautiful, fun-loving nurse that wears superhero scrubs, and has a great personality, changes into a woman full of p*ss and vinegar, cursing, and ready to beat the crap out of anyone who crosses her. Whatever.

As for the story itself, the entire plot was convoluted. There's Reese's ex-boyfriend and his new wife, and Luke's ex-girlfriend who's sleeping with Reese's ex-boyfriend. Throw into the mix one killer, one ATF agent, the mafia, and the Kilgore Police Department. Convoluted. The story itself doesn't flow smoothly. There were times I had to reread a passage to figure out what was going on, not to mention trying to figure out the individuals taking part in the discussion.

In the end, "Center Mass" wasn't what I anticipated it to be. That being said, I leave it up to you to make the decision whether or not to read it. You may even end up loving it.

I really wanted to like this book. It started out good. Steamy, sexy hot male with a cute kids meets a sexy nurse also with a kid. I haven't read any of the authors motorcycle club books and that contributed to me not knowing how many of the characters fit in....OOOOkay but the police dog, mom with cancer, torture, the two exes, vandalism of the homes, undercover agents and the mafia kingpins daughter....WHAT??!!! You're confused now too, aren't you?!
Too much going on with no flow or segway or lead in get what I'm saying......

5.0 out of 5 stars Be prepared to fall in love… 5 May 2015

If you’ve read anything before by this author you know her knack for alpha heroes, strong leading ladies and smexy, action-filled stories. This is the start of a new series and it is HOT!

Luke Roberts is SWAT-team member in the small town of Kilgore, Texas. He is raising his young daughter among friends and family doing a job that he loves. He is an alpha through and through as he rocks the sexy chart off the scale. Reese Doherty moved to the small town with her young daughter to ensure she is giving the best life she can to her small family. Independent, funny and sarcastic she loves with her whole heart. When the two of them meet the scales just explode as the heat between the two of them is undeniable. Between work challenges, pesky ex’es and deadly threats the two have to fight more than each other to find their happily ever after.

If you’ve read the Dixie Wardens MC series you are no stranger to Luke. The cover was icing on the cake as I just had to hear “Lani Lynn Vale” to pounce on her latest release. I LOVED the MC and this KPD Swat is my new favourite. The dialogue is funny, sarcastic and sweet in turn as each family member and friend is given a voice and a face as they support and surround Luke and Reese. Their Frozen-obsesses daughters are beyond adorable and just add more layers to a character-rich story. No one is perfect, there are mistakes and missteps but at the end of the day it is a story about love, friendship and all the chaos that it brings. Add in a heat rating of 11 on the smexy-o-meter and you have a story that you will devour in one sitting. I hated it to end but was tantalized by the teaser for the next in the series. Just when I thought the kindle was safe it sailed across the room in frustration. I cannot wait for book two!

5.0 out of 5 stars Bring on the Swat! 1 May 2015

It's was great to see that Luke finally found someone who was perfect for him. Loved finding out that Bennett was part of the KPD Swwat with James and Luke. Now for the month wait for Nico's book. Plus when will we get to see Downy's book? Plus are we going to get a book on Tai?

With each series, I get more and more hooked on Vale's books. Thanks for the great reads that make me laugh, cry and lust for my own alpha, hot male - be him a biker, ex-military man, cop, firefighter, etc, etc...

Really frustrating to read. Little links between the chapters and not enough background information to set the scene for some of the plot.
