I found this book very hard to read. I had to keep putting it down to wipe the tears of laughter from my eyes. It is the funniest book I've read since, well, THE COMING THING, also by Anne Billson.
The concept is a simple one. CATS ON FILM is the secret history of film. We learn within its pages that it is cats that are the major players in film. Any story they appear in, however tangential their relation to the story, the cat eventually becomes the main focus. Events and relations are changed as soon as the cat appears. We might not realise their significance on first viewing, but thanks to Anne Billson it will all become clear. Who really is the head of the Corleone Family? Who is pulling Blofeld's strings? I think we all REALLY knew didn't we?
I for one welcome our cat overlords...
Any way, Just as it is impossible not to see a cat and not want to stroke it it is impossible to pick this book up and not read it from cover to cover.
Buy it, you won't regret it.
It may well be Anne Billson's Moggnum Opuss.
