I thought the 10th in the series was ok. It seemed that the interactions were mainly with the cats. The mystery story dragged a lot. The most enjoyable parts were when the story didn't focus on solving the murder. True it is a mystery series. But that doesn't mean someone always has to be murdered. There are other mysteries, that are just as interesting.
It's also rather annoying that Kathleen keeps repeatedly stating that she needs to tell Marcus about the cats. This had been going on for a few books. Over all the character development between Kathleen and Marcus lacked in this book.
The book is fun, but the typical formula. Which wouldn't be so bad, if the character development would have been there.
The book is ok. There are some really good parts. The parts with Ruby photographing the cats. Roma and Eddie's entire pre-wedding and wedding sections.
I will still continue to read the series. As Kathleen, Hercules, Owen, and the rest are wonderful characters. I love visiting Mayville Heights.
While Ruby and Kathleen are attempting a photo-shoot with Owen and Hercules for a calendar, a body is found. Ruby is in shock and Kathleen is curious (along with the cats,) as to why there are so many people in town that don't 'fit.' If Emme left town to grieve, why is her sister, Nora and Emme's ex-boyfriend in town? Why is another man (who is sleazy) following and why are paparazzi still in town?
Well, you can be sure, Owen and Hercules will lead Kathleen to the answers. Maybe Marcus, Kathleen's Homicide detective boyfriend will beat her to the answers, but, with the cats? Doubtful!
This is a comfortable cozy murder mystery. The cats are the draw for me. The dialog that Ms. Kelly writes between Kathleen and her clever cats keep me grinning and amazed. The story was solid and well written. All in all, this makes me eager for the next volume.
