What a nice and relaxing mystery! I do not know how Rita does it, but she makes provincial America so likeable although she always describes hideous crimes. And in addition the ending might be frustrating for some, but such is life. It happens all the time in reality. And then the animals: I like their subtly described characters; they seem to be alive ansd much smarter than humans. You forget they are animals. They play a decisive dramatic role in her novels. A splendid idea!
I recommend the book to all those who like traditional mysteries, but also to those people who like nice relaxing stories with a lot of humour in them. Rita, please, let us have some more Mrs. Murphy mysteries!

A Civil War reenactment pits partner against partner

I don't have as much time as usual to write a review, so I apologize for my lack of depth.

I think that the setting of a Civil War reenactment and a town debate over lack of water was interesting and the overall character development that I love has deepened where people are showing more intelligence and heart than I had expected. This series really excels with its characters and I like them the most.

The plot moved at a quick pace and and it's very easy to follow. I enjoy all of the historical points and just how real everyone and everything seems.

I really didn't care for the final reveals of whodunnit and the subsequent lack of true justice. It seemed so rushed and improbable. And the fact that the killer(s) get away and the planting of "evidence" to throw of the police was terribly obvious that it was disappointing that the residents of Crozet would believe such blatant falsehoods.

I love Mrs. Murphy mysteries, Pewter is my favorite. This book is the one I like the least so far, the Porsche incident is over the top even for a super cat lover like me, but what really put me off is, the murderers do not get punished. If I want to read about one law for ordinary people, another for rich and a third for super rich, I would read newspapers, I like whodonits, that bolster my naïve belief in justice.

Love all the Sneaky Pie stories

I look forward with great anticipation when I have ordered a new Sneaky Pie mystery from Amazon. I know I am going to enjoy the process of another murder being solved by Mrs. Browne's wonderful Mrs. Murphy, a tiger cat; Pewter, a plump gray cat and Tucker, a Corgi. Its really fun to read the "thoughts" of the three animals and they play a major role in finding out "who done it" and, on several occasions, saved their human's life.

Mrs. Browne draws such interesting characters in her books and you find yourself looking forward to the next book to see what has happened in Crozet, Virginia. When I read the very first one, I was hooked and couldn't wait until I could read the next one. I have ordered four or five at the same time and always enjoy every one.

I certainly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys a mystery and the imaginative use of animals to help solve it.

Old stories written by dead authors, new stories written by authors still alive, can be just as good to read today as they were when written. Reading about Regency England is my favorite time period to enjoy. I picked this story because the author's style of storytelling matches my reading interest level. A complicated plot and storyline to challenge me as I read.
