I purchased this book as it was on special and I thought "why not?". Now, to be honest, I found the blurb confusing and I wondered how I'd cope with all the solar system business.
However... It took about a page and a half before I started reading a bit faster, and by page six, the time where 'she' meets 'him', my hands magically glued themselves to my kindle for the next 30 hours. Shame on me for staying in bed most of the Sunday so I could discover how Cassandra and Kayden's love story developed.
The book has a main love story, yet it is surrounded by battles and sky adventures which kept me going throughout the book. The characters are absolutely like-able and I genuinely wanted to discover them and begged for a happy ending to the complex relationship between the main characters.
The back story about Cassie's mother and father also worked for me. I suspect this is based on my personal childhood wish of having my father find me, nevertheless, and regardless of the reasons, it touched me. It showed the raw impact, and the recovery, of childhood trauma written in a soft and loving way.
I found the characters' reactions 'realistic' (for a fiction book obviously). For example, the characters, throughout the book, experience sadness, fear, jealousy and change over time in a way that makes sense. They have fights, meltdowns and crazy moments. It's not all picture perfect with rigid emotions. It's human; unpredictable, happy and sad. However, in its typical Debbie Behan's signature, it ends well.
I picked up a couple of typos (no more than a couple). Now, truth be told, spelling mistakes are pet hates of mine. I'm one of those crazy type A personality with OCD traits who will correct FB posts when I notice (and I *WILL* notice) them. Yet, while I noticed them and my brain thought of making notes of where they were found, I couldn’t stop reading the book to note them. I kept telling myself 'in a minute' and by the time the minute 'came'. I was somewhat five chapters down the track and forgot about it. This says a lot about the pull this story had on me.
AND this should be the “REAL” feedback. The book had a couple of mistakes, was not perfect (no author’s first book is!) YET, this didn’t change anything. This did not change the fact that the story itself, the foundation of the book, had me hooked, and so the rest did not matter.
I gave this book 5 stars and would recommend it.
Congratulations on hooking me with this sweet love story in a world of stars. I’m impatiently waiting for book 2 to download!
