Very like one I had in the 80s but better. Who can forget staring at the countdown timer to see when French lesson would be over!
I wore a posh diver's watch for decades and swore I'd never go back to digital again but I got fed up with having to set the time every week, remembering how many days go in each month and over cooking the pasta because as great as a rotating bezel is, you still have to remember to look at the thing - very boring.
Best feature is the auto light on tilt - awesome when out walking or riding at night, or, you know, seeing how long the pasta has to go whilst on the dark side of the moon!
I'll probably write a symphony or a treatise something with all the extra time and organisation I'm going to have now...

Great retro looking watch, looks heavier than what it is. I think it only weighs 50 grams. Sits very comfortably on the wrist. This is my 4th G-Shock, actually this watch replaced my DW-5600-1V, and besides the big difference of this one being solar powered I was pleasantly surprised to find the following features over the base model: The band. I have no scientific evidence to back this up, but I reckon the band is softer, more comfortable, even a different material?? World time, 29 time zones. I can now take my 5600 travelling. Power saving function. Button tone on/off. Battery charge indicator. Automatic EL light. 5 alarms with snooze, which are next to useless even in a quiet room (use your phone to wake you up), plus the standard features: hourly time signal, stopwatch, count down timer, light. waterproof 20 bar. i'm very happy with my purchase.

Ditch your “smart” watch as buy one of these, you won’t look back. After disappointment with various smart watches I’ve gone back to the trusted G shock. Infinite battery life, super tough, stylish and nod to the 80s. Forget spending hundreds of dollars on a smart watch that will be obsolete in 2 years or less. Get this, keep it forever and invest the money you save in something more useful or interesting than counting your steps! I will not miss the poor battery life, fragile construction and constant interruptions of my previous smart watches.

Glad I bought this watch. It was a good choice for my needs, I spend a lot of time in the outdoors, rough and tumble with the kids and working around the house. I wanted something tough, reliable and practical without a massive military style thing on my wrist . Just the basics, not too big on my small wrist, solar powered so no battery required. I don't require to know the time zone in every continent on the planet, jump our of plane or dive to depths of the ocean so this model was a good choice. I like the black color, how it sits flat on my wrist and it is easy to read, easy to set the time,

this watch is such a great daily watch. i dont have to worry about knocking it about. yet it still looks really good with hardly a scratch. i love that its not too think and yet not to small. the straps are quite strong and durable. the watch looks as good as i bought it over a year ago. i highly recommend it.

This is my every day, heavy duty watch. Fantastic at work or play and bonus I never have to change the battery. Solar charges in a blink (full sun). Its a comfortable wearing watch BUT I don't like the small wristband, the buckle sits on the side of my wrist which pulls the watch face around and I'm constantly adjusting it. I've ordered adapters and a one piece strap so hopefully that will center the watch on my wrist.

This is your basic square, with solar charging. Has your basic features (world time, stop watch, timer, alarms), the light is pretty good and the display easy to read. I find it quite comfortable to wear. Only downside to note is that the pushers can be a bit hard to operate due to being recessed and quite firm. I'm pretty happy on the whole for the value at the price-point.

Such an awesomely bad-ass watch. I wear it everywhere. This is actually the second time I bought this watch. I lost my first one on a trip to Norway. I took it off during the security screening at the airport in Norway and forgot all about it.
The watch itself is very comfortable and very light. The size is ideal. It’s got a very rugged look but you can wear it to any occasion. Very sturdy. Love this watch.

Casio digital watches are iconic and hold a special place in watchmaking history. They have found their way into many Hollywood movies and pop culture as well, be it the Casio calculator watch in Back to the Future or Keanu Reeves wearing the DW 5600 in the movie Speed. There's something about the rugged looks, no nonsense functionality of these watches that they will never go out of fashion.
The non-solar variant of this watch holds the Guinness World Record for the heaviest vehicle to drive over a watch (20 tonne truck). Astronauts aboard the ISS have been spotted sporting this watch. It is the closest in looks and functionality to the original G Shock developed by Kikuo Ibe. It's reputation of toughness is legendary in the watch world.
The watch has world time (48 cities), 5 alarms, stopwatch, countdown timer, calendar pre programmed upto the year 2100. It also has a cool feature called auto-illumination that basically turns on the backlight automatically when it's dark and you move your hand to look at the time. Works like a charm. As it is tough solar, even under ordinary tubelight it keeps charging. All in all the value that you get for this price is unmatched.

Battery died within 6 months

Casio watches are the grand standard of watches, but we should not worry about the pocket while buying one, i learnt it the hard way....
This model is without doubt a steal for the price, but as Casio has discontinued this model years ago, and all these watches have stayed long enough in Amazon warehouses, all their batteries have died.
I replaced my 1st for battery issues, only to find a dead 2nd watch within 6 months
Also, the online warranty process does not work with these watches as Casio has totally stoped backing these models. PLZ DO NOT BUY THESE FROM ANY ONLINE STORE...

The watch has a very bright display so it's possible to see the time under almost all lighting conditions when tipping the watch a little. Otherwise there is also electric illumination in this model. The 4 alarms, snooze, count down and stop watch, world time, light, shock resistance, water resistance to 200 metres depth and sunlight rechargeable battery makes this watch a great option. It does all that the bigger g-shock watches do and yet it's a bit smaller and flatter so it's easier to roll your sleves up and down, take on jackets etc. without being bothered. Expose the watch to sunlight for two days when receiving the parcel. That will fully charge the battery. From that point on this watch hasn't needed any other sunlight than the bit it's got unintendingly. For 1 year the battery indication has not dropped from maximum charge.
Edit: It's a shame that this watch model (G5600E-1) was so hard to find and as writing this review the watch is out of stock. While its predecessor the dw5600 is easy to get. The dw-5600 is probably a great watch and has got good ratings, but this watch is newer and thinner and solar powered. It's an underrated watch and should be put back in stock.

Excellent watch
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 December 2010Verified Purchase
I would guess that most people familiar with Casio's G-Shock range will be aware that they can be quite chunky watches. However by G-Shock standards this model is actually fairly slimline.
Also by G-Shock standards it doesn't have as many bells, whistles and generally weird and wonderful functions, it's a pretty straight forward, robust and reliable watch.
The G5600E-1 doesn't need to have it's battery replaced every year or two. The little solar cell charges up the internal battery. A small three stage (low, medium, high) indicator tells you how much charge is left in the battery. Since giving the watch it's inital charge up by leaving it in the window for a few hours the indicator on my watch has never moved from high. It will also charge under electric light but this takes longer. It required a small change in habit to leave the watch somewhere it would get some light while not wearing it. You can select power save mode that will switch the display off over night and in darkness. Exposing the watch to light or pressing a button will bring it back on again.
I like the world time zone functionality. Rather than having to adjust the actual time shown on the watch when travelling, you can easily select the desired time zone and that will adjust the time apporopriately.
It will also be of little surprise that the G5600E-1 keeps time very well.
Nice watch, I like it
