About the author

Neil first lost himself in the pages of a book as a five- or six-year-old when Beatrix Potter and Thornton Burgess immersed him in the worlds of Jerry Muskrat, Peter Rabbit, and their furry friends. His parents happily indulged his excitement about being able to read them stories, which he thought was pretty darned cool. He’s been reading and writing one thing or another ever since, but it was many years before the audacious idea of writing a book wormed its way into his head. He’s lived throughout Canada, spent three years in Europe, and lived in Chicago and Arizona, somehow managing to squeeze a career in banking and finance into his travels. After doing an apprenticeship reading, reading, reading, taking courses, attending seminars and conferences, and churning out some truly atrocious manuscripts, he began writing the Tony Valenti thrillers. The series will total four published novels by the end of 2021, plus a free prequel novella for members of my exclusive Reader’s Club. There will be more titles to come in 2022 and beyond, probably at the rate of two or three per year . Stay tuned!
Neil lives in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

For those new to this series, Tony Valenti, a once successful corporate lawyer whose falling from grace allows him to take on downtrodden clients as a freelance defense attorney, is the principle character. Neil has an uncanny ability to capsulize the core of each new adventure with Valenti, as is evident in the opening: ‘There’s a satisfying fullness that comes with doing things in threes, the driver thinks as he kills the headlights of an unmarked panel van while steering into the shadows of an alley. The van coasts to a stop with its sliding door three feet from the back door of a nondescript brick commercial building. Dumpsters obstruct the view between the vehicle and the building from both ends of the alley. A rat stares back insolently from the rim of a dumpster just beyond the windshield, then goes back to its business. The driver checks the mirrors to confirm that the rats are the only other living things in the alley, then kills the engine. It’s not the last thing the driver will kill this evening…’ Ingeniously, Neil sets the stage for this new Valenti thriller.
The well-crafted story, creating excellent characters to populate this adventure, is summarized as follows: ‘When a woman is brutally slain, suspicion falls on her ex-husband. But should it? The suspect’s family turns to Tony Valenti for help. The case is a bewildering maze, with multiple potential killers and a mountain of contradictory evidence that points both to and away from the ex. Is he innocent? Even Tony isn’t sure. Tony is fully immersed in the battle to win the case when a lethal terror from his past surfaces and shakes his faith in himself. Now desperate to protect himself and his family as he fights to free his client, Tony fears that he is being pulled in too many directions to save anyone. He’ll need every trick he knows to get everyone out alive.’
Neil’s casual, conversational style of writing underscores the shockers Tony Valenti faces – including a GSW to his ear requiring surgical reconstruction! – and the language and pacing of the story excels in capturing committed attention to the final satisfying page. Neil Turner, in one year, has marked his entry into the genre of fine thrillers. Hollywood alert! Highly recommended. Grady Harp, December 21

The book follows our protagonist, Attorney Tony Valenti when he's asked by a friend to represent his brother. Although suspected of murder, but Valenti's friend believes his brother is innocent in the death of his ex-wife. The case lands the attorney in murky waters when those close to him start getting in harm's way.
Clear signs that he's being asked to back off, coupled with very opposing evidence that makes his client look both guilty and innocent, and Valenti's concern for those he holds dear serve as a tangled mesh from which he needs to find answers. And fast.
A Case of Betrayal reads easily, with a solid pace. The sub-plots are interesting and the characters are well-rounded. It's interesting to see human nature in the face of adversity and danger play out in such detail on paper. I enjoyed the mystery, action and fast-pace of this story.

As always, these books just keep on delivering edge-of-your-seat excitement. Tony is on point like the other books, eager to find out the truth and unwilling to compromise when obstacles are put in his way. Fans of thrillers will enjoy this, along with those who really like mysteries. The characters are well developed, and the narrative moves at a very steady pace.

I found A Case of Betrayal a fast-paced novel with the edginess of a great crime thriller. Neil Turner has found his niche as a writer of legal mysteries that will keep his readers enthralled. The next book in the series, A Time for Reckoning, promises to be just as enticing.
