Product Description

Carter
She was the one for me.
The one that I knew would be mine forever until I made the biggest mistake. I pushed her away and I’ve regretted that decision ever since. I’ve tried to move on, tried to put the memory of her behind me, but she’s always consuming my thoughts. Now, she’s back in our hometown, trying to rebuild a new life. I know she’s keeping secrets. She tries to hide them from me, and I will do whatever it takes to prove that I’m the one she needs. Because Shelby Ross is the other part of me that I can’t live without and I refuse to let her go again.

Shelby
He broke my heart.
I never thought I would be able to pick up the pieces he left behind. When he let me go, I ran away from it all, thinking it was the easiest thing to do. But, running has a price and I’ve paid it in full for years. Now, I’m back where it all began, back to putting my life together and starting over. It should’ve been easy, but Carter Harlow is reawakening long buried emotions that I thought were gone. He wants to make me his again. I can’t let that happen. He ruined me, broke me, and I’m afraid I’ll never survive it a second time around.

Received for an honest opinion.

I love the concept for Carter, best friends who become lovers who are torn apart only to meet again, it's probably as close to a modern fairytale as we'll ever get.
I immediately felt for Shelby but never hated Carter. I loved his family, even if all the C names was a bit confusing. I felt it was a bit strange that Carter was angry at Shelby when he was the one to break them initially but I also understand his anger. Carter was an unusual book in that your anger is never directed at either of the main characters even when they're being annoying! I genuinely liked Carter and am interested to see which of the brothers will get a book next. I'd love either Cason or Clark but I have a feeling it might be Caden, either way, I'll be waiting and reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars I fell in love with Carter and Shelby story fast 31 July 2016
By Michelle Bishop - Published on Amazon.com

Oh,Carter.....You sure can keep a lady up all hours of the night. I fell in love with Carter and Shelby story fast. What a connection!! I lost a lot of sleep reading Carter because I couldn't put this awesome book down.
At a young age Carter and Shelby have a connection that Shelby thought would last forever. When Carter gets a visit from Shelby when his at college. He decided to push her away because he thinks that is what was best for her.... But it is a choice that sends Shelby running & will change her life. For Carter it is a decision that he finds himself regretting for many years to come. No matter what.... He can't move on.
Now, Shelby comes back home running from what feels like a life time of mistakes & regrets. When Carter finds out Shelby is back in town. Carter is hoping to fix his mistakes he made. Carter wants that 2nd chance with Shelby. Carter knows that Shelby is his forever girl.... All he has to do is get Shelby to forgive him and show her his not going to break her heart again. Will Shelby give Carter that chance or will she run again???
You so should read this book to find out. Carter is a great start to Harlow Series!! I am not surprised.... I have absolutely loved every book I have read by Brie. I promise you will to!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved the Cover 19 August 2016

I initially bought this book because of the sexy man on the front. However, Brie pulls you into her story. Carter and Shelby were in love as teens , a misguided notion breaks them up. Shelby's life takes a dark turn. When Shelby goes home to heal she reunites with Carter and we get to watch them fall all over again. Love this book can't wait it for the next one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Carter is totally swoon worthy!!! 20 February 2017

Oh my...Oh my...Oh my...

Why haven't I read Carter sooner?

I have never been disappointed with a book by Brie Paisley. Carter just cements my point in place. I LOVED this book from the beginning to the very end. If I didn't pass out at 1am the book would have been devoured in one day. Just loved Carter and Shelby's story.

At the beginning of the book you learn how Shelby and Carter met and then are brought to the present time where both have gone in separate directions. Hearts were broken in the past and time moved forward but can love survive through it all between two who were meant to be together.

Deep down I believe in fate and that it steps in at a time when people truly need it. In Carter, I think fate played a huge part in Shelby and Carter's story. This book is emotion packed and had my heart breaking at times for both Shelby and Carter but rejoicing at others.

The Harlow Brothers also help make this book a 5 star read. The Harlows are a close knit Family and you feel the love they have for each other. Carter, Caden, Cason, Clark and Caleb (wow a lot of "C" names to keep track of) are also very close and have each other's backs. The comradery between them is strong and they have a great bond with each other. I can't wait to get the rest of the Harlow boys stories. And I will just put this out there now...I am claim Caleb - I love a quiet, shy boy 😉.

Brie Paisley, I loved this book and fell in love with each of the characters you have created. I love when I am so engrossed with a book that I wish I was right there with them. Can't wait for the next book!

If you couldn't tell I f'in loved this book - one-click it today! You won't regret it! 😍

1.0 out of 5 stars Had potential, but fizzled out pretty quickly 3 August 2016
By Kindle Customer - Published on Amazon.com

I gave this story a poor review because of the implausible story line.

*Spoilers*

So, this author expects the reader to imagine a very small town life, where the heroine returns after 7 years to live with her 'adopted parents' and where the hero, her childhood love and BFF, lives with his large tight-knit family. Here's where I have the problem; she returns and immediately runs into the hero's brothers who tell her they won't lie to the hero about knowing she's back, but they won't tell him outright either. She then proceeds to live there under his nose for 6 mos! Come onnnn! Really? Small town life and no one knows?!? implausible.
I DNF this book. After 70% of the story line read, and the H/h were just then meeting, I gave up. It's unfortunate too because it had the makings of a great story in the beginning, but it just failed to pan out. This is the first in a series as I imagine his zillion other brothers--all named with a "C"--will also get their stories told. (Hint: failed to keep my attention with the Cason, Caden, Callen, Carter, blah blah blah. Not cutesy to me, sorry:/)
Hopefully the author can take this criticism to heart and fix future work product as the content about the h traveling home was pretty good. It was after she arrived that felt flat pretty quickly for me.
Also, I feel this author tried to do too much with the plot. For example, she's got domestic violence, childhood abuse/neglect, small town life, foster family, (hints to cuz I DNF) Co-dependent parent issues, stalker GF, Military (nod to the hawt Vet on the cover;), etc. themes. Just too much in one book IMO.

4.0 out of 5 stars second chance.... 14 June 2017
By Beckyrae99 (Becky Wise) - Published on Amazon.com

A beautiful second chance/friend to love romance. Shelby and Carter had that young love. Of course what happens with most young love someone gets spooked and instead of fighting for love they push it away. Carter screwed up and years later after pushing Shelby away she is back in town to restart her life. Shelby didn't have an easy life and all she wanted was her Harlow boy. This is a beautiful story. I have a feeling as this series goes on I will have a hard time picking which of the Harlow brother is my favorite. But for now It's Carter and the love he feels for Shelby. I'm so looking forward to each book that comes out in this series to see what Brie Paisley comes up with.
