I received a copy of this book from Abbott Press via Netgalley in return for an honest review
I'm a bit torn over this one!
"You can't afford to let the heartbreaks in life ruin your future."
Okay my lovelies, I'm going to try extra hard to define my feelings in this book, because part of me liked it and another part didn't so here goes nothing.
But first, let's chat about the plot!
Have you ever believed you saw a ghost? Perhaps some say that its a force of paranormal activity or even that you have particular senses that are not common.
But what if that feeling of being watched, that sensation when you could've sworn someone was standing there and suddenly they disappeared was you catching a glimpse into another dimension?
What if the world- earth is made up of multiple layers, it's still the same places, the same lands. But everything is different- the language, the names, the clothing.
Huh...what would that be like?
Marissa MacCallum is about to find out.
Being sucked into a nebulous time twister, made of lightning, Marissa suddenly find herself facing 2 young men in knight garments speaking a strange language.
Not sure what's happened but through stilted conversations she finds out that she is still at the place she was before but the dimension is changed.
She is now in Carnelia, a land more beautiful than she could have ever imagined.
Marissa quickly finds herself torn within the midst of a royal feud for power.
Okay, man this is a hard one to review.
i didn't like Marissa's character. There I said it.
Man that chick got me annoyed. The things she did or said and even (start of a spoiler) felt like committing suicide because she believed the man she loved didn't love her back (end of spoiler)] just really got on my nerves.
At the beginning, i found it interesting and it was fascinating. This book's concepts are what dreams are made of, ya know? So while I did like it, i feel myself facing disappointment still because so many things ended up being loose ended and cliche. It was very- 'things just works out hun.' type of story.
Maybe I've been reading WAY too much about strong, kick-butt heroines that once i face a damsel in distress i seem to find the too simpering and not as appealing.
Also there is a love triangle in here that's going to make you sigh in dismay a bit. But Darian is a really cool character! He is a gentleman to boots and a hunk on the side! But it can be a bit cheesy, for example:
"Your eyes possess a power that can bewitch the staunchest of knights with just one look..."
I mean it's cute but I think because i didn't really like Marissa all that much, i didn't really get into the story as much as I expected to.
The world building was awesome and so was the court politics it was very intriguing stuff and complex too. Which I usually really like.
The plot twists...well, once you read it, it won't be major gasps. I called it very early on. The author did hint at all the plot twists.
My favourite character is Arrie, hands down. He's funny and cute. I like him a lot.
See what I mean by being torn? I liked some of it and didn't at the same time.
This is very much of a romantic book. and clean with some hints of christian themes. overall a good combo.
Have a go at it! It's a nice read! :)
