About this item

  • CHEMICAL FREE – NO PTFE OR PFOA; Carbon:ate Carbon Steel Fry Pans are perfect for any chef (or home chef!) keen to cook without chemical coatings. A well-seasoned carbon steel pan is naturally non-stick. Perfect for searing, frying, browning, stir frying, braising, flambe-ing! NOW WITH FREE Silicon Handle Cover.
  • STRONG, TOUGH AND DURABLE; Carbon:ate Skillet Frying Pans are made from 3mm thick carbon steel (many are 2mm) making them thicker and tougher. The 2x Rivet handle holds the pan securely at 2x spanned points, making it incredibly stable and less easy to spill.
  • PROTECTED with NATURAL BEESWAX COATING; To ensure your pan arrives with you in perfect condition, a light coating of beeswax is applied to act as a barrier to moisture. We recommend washing off the beeswax and seasoning before use (easy to follow instructions included). If wet and un-seasoned, carbon steel can rust – this is normal. Simply scrub and re-season.
  • LIGHT WEIGHT and QUICK TO HEAT UP: Unlike cast iron cookware, carbon steel is extremely light, meaning the cook can roll, toss and move food around the pan with ease. Carbon steel is also a great conductor of heat, the pan heats up (and cools down) more quickly and responsively, too.
  • SUITABLE FOR ALL STOVETOPS; including induction cooktops. Designed and Developed in Australia and Made in China to strict quality standards.

Product description

Carbon:Ate was created for those that are no longer happy using chemically coated pans (pans coated with PTFE and PFOA), but also don’t want to use cast iron. Carbon steel is a superb cooking surface: Similar to cast iron, carbon steel needs to be seasoned before use, but is then naturally non-stick. It also improves with age and use. It’s strong and durable too, but unlike cast iron, it’s very quick to heat up (and cool down) and is also very light! If you want to move, spin, throw and toss your food around the pan then carbon steel is perfect…. Unleash the flamboyant chef inside!

2.0 out of 5 stars Incomplete instructions
By Francis on 9 June 2021
The pan had grill marks at the bottom because the instructiona doesnt say that it has to be put upside down when seasoning in the oven. Oil should be wiped off almost completely before putting it in the oven else it would like whats in the photo- this instruction should be highlighted. I messaged the seller in their facebook page at least 3 times but still no response.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful pan
By Anthony on 29 July 2021
I’ve had a lot of experience with cast iron so seasoning went fine. I followed their instructions. Do make sure you completely wipe out the oil with clean paper towel as instructed prior to baking or else you’ll end up like the other reviews. Bonus points if you put it in upside down. Just look at this beauty. Turns a lovely dark bronze after two bakes. I usually like three bakes before letting it loose but don’t think I can wait.

If you “mess it up” and it looks like others have posted just use it and love it. The beauty of this stuff is it’s endless. Unlike the non stick stuff. It will be fine. Fry bacon a few times, some chorizo and it will sort itself out over time.

Enjoy.
