5.0 out of 5 stars it's great. You need to hone the blades before use

It could use an instruction sheet, otherwise, it's great. You need to hone the blades before use. There are two metal guides on the main body; the rear has an inclined leading edge which fits the groove in the blades. The forward strip is about a half-millimeter higher than the rear guide; line up the blade edge with the bottom of the rear guide and you get good cutting action. The handles make a snug fit in the wooden side-body, so you have to carefully loosen them. You'll need a small case to hold the five blades, which come in a small plastic bag. If you want to make grooves in a small or light piece of wood you'll have to clamp it to a table edge, which could be awkward.

There's no way to set it to stop cutting after a certain depth, so you have to watch what you're doing. But I find this easier and quicker than using a power saw or router to cut a groove, and it doesn't kick sawdust into my eyes. If you're relatively new to woodworking, as I am, you will want to practice with it. Also, I believe it's meant to be pulled through wood, rather than pushed like typical Western planes.

(I made a small box for the blades, using scrap wood and little hinges; see photo. There's enough space to hold that wedge, which is the sort of fiddly bit that's easy to lose. I'm going to cut some spare wedges out of oak, and because I expect things to go wrong, I traced the outline of the wedge on the inside of the lid--an easy way to keep the measurements handy. The curved part isn't decorative. To loosen the wedge, you have to tap it with a hammer, so the curve gives you a striking surface.)
