There are two things that give this more life than other historical romance. There are four very endearing child characters and a wimpy heroine begins to find her voice. ‘Captured’ has well drawn personalities and a heart-stopping plot. Plus it's written in a way that keeps you interested all the way through.
Lady Alison Blackadder is relieved when her oppressive husband dies, but as a widow she and her tiny daughters are vulnerable to those wanting their lands. Laird David Hume's clan is devastated by the murder of his father. David realises that marriage to the Blackadder widow will give him leverage to force his enemies to heel. David with his brothers and Alison with her two daughters become a blended family. This medieval Brady Bunch are threatened by the machinations of the evil Blackadders who are determined to regain the family property.
Themes of mistrust and feeling like an outsider resonate throughout this entertaining book. The children's tantrums and cute moments add a layer of humanity. 'Captured' is good reading.
