I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

First up I have to say, this is not a book for the faint hearted. Tori's life has been unimaginably hard and it is tough but engaging to read about. Right from the first page you want to know what has happened to this girl and how she got to where she is and as the story unfolds, you desperately what her to have a better life.

This book, at less than 200 pages, has more story than many authors manage with 300 or more. I loved Samantha's writing style, not a word was wasted.

This is the first book in a series of 7 and I've already got books 2 and 3 lined up to be read. I'm looking forward to seeing where the story leads. I get the feeling there is far more going on than we know and I can't wait to find out more. Read the warning that comes with the synopsis, if it doesn't bother you - I would definitely recommend reading Captive.

This is a compelling story of abuse, rebirth, and emergence. The story carries you along teasing you with the promise of details. You eagerly push forward anxious to learn more. The author does not disappoint and you are gratified. When the story ends you are satisfied, but still want more. I’m keeping this review short because I’m in a hurry to start book 2!

Take the best elements of Sons of Anarchy, and sprinkle with a liberal amount of the excellent Zero Woman... and you're only half way to how great Captive is.

The story follows Tori who breaks free of the clutches of a controlling motorbike gang, only to find "sanctuary" with the FBI... where she prays that she can escape her past.

It is fair to say, that this book will not be for those of a sensitive disposition, and there are a number of very adult scenes. That said, the action is compelling, gritty, and well thought through.

The pace is excellent, and I was sucked in from the first page, and the book expertly takes the reader into a murky world of treachery and obsession. I loved the characterizations and the sense of danger was palpable.

A great read. Recommended.

I am not a prude, and I can handle violent themes wrapped around sexual themes, but the warning on this novel of violence and sexual themes didn't really express that this book contains multiple examples of rape, and rape with a minor. It was well written, with a strong story line, that ended with you wanting to read on, but I did find whole chapters much too graphic, and hard to swallow.

Not really what I thought it was going five but hey I enjoyed it. A bit dark at times not a lot of hearts and roses. This girl is a tough survivor.
