I started this after a Xmas break from reading novels and was hooked from the start . It s a long story but all the characters were so real and one s heart went out to poor Angelo . Also knowing the turmoil and fear of fleeing a controlling partner although years ago had my heart racing . I try to avoid this period in history when choosing a book but am glad I was drawn by the mystery of this title and will look at the authors other novels now.

This is a brilliant book, however I have only given 4 stars as during the middle it did seem to drag! However that said wanted to keep reading to find out about celesta, may and Ella. It's a very thought out book, ok we all know that the titanic sank ( no spoilers there ) but this was within the first few chapters and the first and seconds world wars ( again no spoiler there ). The flow of the story was keep alive with the letters going back and forth, and you got to know the characters and their friendships. As I said the middle bit, is long winded and you do feel yourself skipping lines however don't give up, I felt I needed to know what happened with celesta, May,Angelo and Ella. This truly is a wonderful book of friendship, family, and growing older.
The story had me gripped from the beginning to the end. The characters were most believable and could of been on the Titanic. Involving both wars gave an insight to lots of historical facts of those eras. Captain Smith l felt sorry for as a lot of the blame was thrown, his way at the time , since then other facts have been discovered which has helped us form a better understanding of the tragedy. A very good read
This is an incredibly clever, deep story which really gets ones imagination going. Thoroughly enjoyed this book and recommend highly. I would have liked another couple of hundred pages! I do wish there had been more storyline about the early years and that the truth had been divulged sooner to enjoy Angelo’s new found joy. Lovely book - you’re in for a treat.
this book is one of the best I have ever read it was wonderfull the storiy was brilliant what made it so for me is the fact we live just outside Lichfield and my husband whent to school there , but apart from that the story was wonderfull i will be looking for more books from the same aurther.
