The Captain And His Nurse: A Romance in 1918 near the end of The Great War (Philippa Carey Book 2) Kindle Edition
This historical romance is set at the end of the Great War in England, a time of upheaval and great political and social change. Many soldiers are returning home from the frontlines in Europe. Ben Richards, an army officer who’d been injured near Amiens in France, is fighting for his life. Will he survive? And does he even want to given that his family has been wiped out in the flu epidemic and the estate he unexpectedly inherited has gone to wrack and ruin.
Fortunately for Ben, Laura, a young woman of noble birth who volunteers at the local hospital is assigned to take care of him. Philippa Carey’s research into the medical practices used in this era is interesting and entertaining.
It takes a couple of poisoning attempts, a kidnapping, a gunfight and an evil cousin with ulterior motives to give Ben his will to live.
The accuracy of the background historical events in the novel is pleasing.
