Omg!! I loved it. I had forgotten I had this pre ordered. I was beyond ready to find out what happens in the "after" story of Kenna and Hud. You can literally feel the emotions of the MC's as you read. Set 10 years after there pact at his family cabin, sees Hud coming back into "Macs" life if only for a few weeks before his next deployment . All the same love, affection, history encased in so much more and them wanting so much more. Macs afraid to try again for real risking another broken heart and he finds he can't let go as easily as he did before. This book is just so much. I love how the author has captured both sides but made you feel as much a part of it as the MC's. Exposing and enforcing truths and fears , a few twists thrown in and of course happily ever afters. I sometimes find with "before and after" books that either too much time has past and it gets to be too over the top or the book either doesn't end up as it should or leaves you questioning what you read. This ending just made me want to re read them all over again. This is not my first book by Brighton Walsh and definitely wont be the last. I loved this whole series.
This is the first time I have read this author's work but it won't be the last I will be investigating her back library

I was given a copy of this book but this is a true and honest review
I was eagerly awaiting Kenna and Hudsons story after reading Pact with a Heartbreaker and will say that this did not disappoint.........LOVED it!
It was like time hadn't passed between the two best friend lovers. Their banter and their bets are always fun and their chemistry is off the charts. There's some sizzling sex scenes too. I also loved the addition of CB the dog and the other characters are always fun. We get to learn so much more about Kenna who feels that she hasn't amounted to much in her life but hasn't realised just how much she's been there for everyone else and the kind of helper that she is.
I totally enjoyed this and read it in 2 sittings. Now I'm looking forward to Nat's story which I'm sure will be interesting.
Hudson and MacKenna were best friends when they were younger and became something more when they were in high school. But Hudson didn’t want the small-town life. He wanted out. He wanted to spread his wings and live. So, he did what any small-town boy does when they want to see the world … he joined the military! buuuuuut he did it without telling Mackenna *sigh* (young people man, what are you gonna do? amirite??).
Well, now it’s a decade later and he’s home and it just might be time to reevaluate ...
So, listen, two things can happen in these types of stories. Two people can either continue to get in their own way and drag the past thru the entire book or they don’t. Brighton wrote this story with more hope and happiness than she did conflict. I just cannot express how much I appreciate that LOL Yes, obviously there was conflict, but it wasn’t the central focus of every single interaction with these two. This story had a purpose and that purpose started from the very beginning. She wrote secondary characters that enhanced the storyline. She wrote the quirkiness of a small-town gloriously, especially the busybody syndrome that makes these towns so charming!
It was impossible not to fall in love with both Hudson and MacKenna. Hudson was the total swoon worthy package and then some. Mac was just … gaaaaaaah, I want to hug her and hold her in my heart forever!! These two are the couple you aspire to be in life when you grow up. Brighton Walsh makes me happy LOL She’s not only written a story that made my heart soar, but a series I can return to over and over again! I love this town. I love this family. I love these couples. I just love everything about it, and I love it even more because Brighton is such a great writer! The story was entertaining and realistic with relatable circumstances and characters! THE TOTAL PACKAGE!
Captain Heartbreaker was a great second chance romance between childhood best friends. Mac and Hudson had amazing chemistry, but their friendship is what stood out. It was one of those where you go without seeing each other for years and fall right back into things. I loved that. I did get frustrated at times by both of their decisions, but it did make for a sweet romance. I'm really hoping Brighton Walsh gives us a book for Natalie, the youngest Haven. Oh, and Willow and Mac's friend Avery, too! I'm really not done with Havenbrook and I hope Walsh isn't either.
