Since it says MEN'S shoe right there in the title we assumed that a size 7.5 w meant 7 1/2 w(ide) MEN'S shoe; certainly nothing in the description or the other info offered contradicted that assumption.
We were wrong.
Apparently MEN'S shoe is actually code for "could be men's or could be women's" and W is code for "might indicate wide or might indicate women's"; neither of which is clear from the title or the description.
Needless to say (but I'll spell it out anyway), a 7.5 w fits a size 7.5 woman's foot and NOT a 7.5 young man's foot.
I gave it 2 stars because:
-the shoe itself was as expected in quality and materials
-Amazon made the return easy and (almost) painless
-I still have time to re-order before rehearsals at the Nashville Ballet begin again after the end-of-school-break
-the item arrived fairly quickly and certainly within the time frame that was promised
I bought these to trade off with a leather pair I had cut out a space for my toe after the toenail was removed and the doctor wanted it be in the open air as much as possible. A bonus is these can be washed.
I can also cover the toe with gauge, or half of a shoe cover held in place by 3M Corban Wrap, Vetwrap or Dynarex Sensi Wrap. Wrapping just a bit of my foot or all the way up my leg over the shoe.
These are one of the few shoes I can find that are large enough to fit.
I will buy again as house shoes.
The elastic straps come sewn in.
I wear a size 12 street shoe and find that, between the 12 and 12.5 sizes (both of which I own), the 12 is best for ballet work. I initially ordered a half size larger due to what some of the reviews said. I didn't like the half size larger for the actual ballet work, but I'm going to keep the 12.5 for yoga and other stuff where I don't require such snugness.
The product is good quality, and I'd definitely order them again.
