High school senior Stephanie Turner is about to be the state swimming champion until a last minute bout with the flu ruins her chances. Despondent after her crushing loss, her world is instantly brightened by a pair of sparkling brown eyes belonging to one Sara Austin. Their bond forms in an instant, but their love must remain a secret in their conservative Midwestern community. Sara's self-sabotage, fueled by her jealous friend Jenny, causes them to go their separate ways. As the two women struggle to survive in their own worlds, entering in loveless marriages to fit in and denying their own truth and personal desires, the timelessness of their love endures. Soon, Stephanie will find that the love she shares with Sara reaches across the centuries, and destiny will prevail over human prejudice.
M.A. Myers lives in Indiana and works as a high school math teacher. A USAF veteran and former school police officer, M.A. Myers sets out to write a love story that transcends all boundaries of time.

The book made me realize that my true love, my other half is out there. Because of when and where i grew up, i can relate and understand the struggles of being gay and not being accepted. I have loved and lost because i thought it was the right ,safe thing to do. Maybe i will find my Sara, hope so..

A human tragedy of what Wilde called the "love that dare not speak its name". Stephanie Turner and Sara Austin are complex modern female characters: real, raw, with hearts both full and flawed. As they discover themselves in their teens, find love that they are forced to deny, and then live lives of denial and pretense as they struggle for identity, readers will be aware of commonalities that all of us share, regardless of whom we love. As the two women struggle to breathe under the stifling, leaden pillow of Midwestern Bible Belt oppression, parents in absentia, and false friends who visit their own vituperative jealousies on their heads, they are launched into trajectories of self-denial and spiritual suffocation, until their enduring love brings them together one final time. In the end, they discover that their love is something that transcends time, being passed on through the ages through other souls. The book's poignant ending leaves one with both hope and sadness, and a greater understanding of what it means to let love be what it will be, or be yet another contributor to human tragedy and collateral damage. A story told in the tradition of "Brokeback Mountain", yet involving women and their bonds that echo the passions of Anais Nin, this story will make readers rethink the fears and prejudices that needlessly cause pain to not only those who love, but others in their wakes. M.A. Myers tells a story that comes from the gut. It's not sugar-coated, and it's not sanitized for the judgmental or ill-informed reader. Scenes are handled with both delicacy and honesty. The barn party is a vivid and gut-wrenching example of human cruelty. "Candle on the Water" is a story that will resonate with anyone with an interest or a supportive word for the present-day LGBTQ community. Highly recommended reading for younger women, especially those who are struggling with coming out.
