It's the YA novel people around the world are reading in a day!
What happens when a rock star falls in love with an ordinary girl?
Can Lola feel the music, before it’s too late?
Lola has a secret. It’s not that her mother has kicked her out of home. Or that her new housemates are dead people. It’s not hiding her growing feelings for Kain, the punk rocker who’s recently arrived in town and turned her world upside down. Lola is going deaf, which for a musician, totally sucks. Lola has one chance to change her destiny, from undertaker to classically trained musician. Can she win a scholarship to London, before her hearing disappears completely?
What real people like you say about ‘Can You Feel It?’
‘Lola is the kind of teen girl not often shown by the media, especially teen books. A realistic teen. She is a teen girl, not this goddess-like creature with everything going for her! I related to her so much in so many ways. Once I started reading, I couldn't put it down. No, really, I finished it in one night because I was so immersed in the story. Never has a book made me so emotional. Never have I related more to a character and never have I ever wanted to steal a book character’s style.’ Niris Kaya (15)
‘An amazingly accurate account of what it is like to live with hearing loss as a teen! So many of the thoughts and feelings I had were represented while still being a unique story. A very relatable coming of age journey, both to those with and without hearing loss.’ Bec Stewart (22)
Sensational, striking and a stand out must-read! "Can you feel it?" is an outstanding novel that brings to life a diversity of issues and themes - in a layered and engaging manner. The story is a symphony of words, images and notes - that are bound to stay with you long after reading the final page. Through vivid imagery, superbly crafted dialogue and a powerful narrative, one embarks on a journey with Lola through the trials and tribulations of music, hearing loss, relationships and more. As soon as I started reading this wonderful novel I was immediately captivated by the setting, characters and scenes - the story leaps from the page! DEFINITELY add this novel to your list of books to read.

About the Author
Hi, I'm Pauline Findlay. I'm a passionate author and filmmaker based in Sydney Australia. I teach teenagers filmmaking and storytelling to help them tell their unique stories. I work mainly with deaf, hard of hearing and hearing impaired teenagers through 'Hear for You', a charity set up to mentor deaf teenagers. These teenagers are orally deaf and use a hearing aid or Cochlear implant to assist in their hearing, sometimes both! I also teach teenagers who struggle with mental health issues through the public school system in Sydney. I help them create films to show what it is really like, living with mental health challenges, in a world where there is no off switch.
'Can You Feel It?' has been read by teenagers at several stages who are deaf and those with normal hearing. Their input helped me carve out an authentic story. I interviewed 25 teenagers over 5 years of research. I wrote this book for the teenagers I teach. It's a story about empathy, social inclusion and following your dreams no matter what life throws at you. Teenagers tell me it's like nothing they have read before. I hope you enjoy it too. :)
