Its not that this book was poor, it is generally well written, with a subtle social commentary on how governments oppress lower classes by distraction, and a concise plot that progresses well. Its not the nit picky things that superfans will hate. (Worf can't kill? Come on. Data can't help but smile? Impossible, be can't experience the emotion).
Its just a boring story. I finished the book because I felt I had to, fast skimming the final 1/3 of the book. The story just was not compelling to me.
I will say the author generally writes great stories. This one is not bad, it just was not compelling to this reader, but in the end that is what is most important.
