This book helps you to understand introductory calculus to a degree, but if you're like me who didn't have a teacher who knew how to teach pre-calculus, then you will need a tutor and put in MANY hours of study. I didn't have a good foundation in pre-calculus, so I struggled to understand the few chapters my class went over. As I said before, with much study and the assistance from tutors and yes, a great calculus teacher who had much patience with his students, helped me get a good final grade and helped me obtained an understanding of calculus. The book does provide a few examples of each rule, some chapters and sections of chapters have more examples than others, so you will need much practice outside the classroom to obtain more information and have better understanding of calculus. I do not know of any other books to help one understand calculus as an introductory subject, so do your investigation with other resources to assist you, which is what I did, but practice and the consistent help of tutors together made the difference for me. This book is not as thorough as it should be for those who are new to calculus, so again I advise buyers of this book and those alike to have other calculus resources, the aid of tutors and good teachers as well as doing the work to gain a better understanding, which altogether can benefit.
