Top critical review
I loved it in the beginning, but by the end I was disappointed

The story starts well. I appreciated that Casey was smart and confident and generally had her s**t together. (Anyone else board by angst ridden virgins in their romance stories? but I digress). The early dialog transported me back to my early 20's. I loved the characters and I would have swooned after Jake too. The story goes off the rails at around the 3rd re-telling of how they met 'and then she did this crazy dance'. By the 8th time they retell it I was board and disappointed. I'm also not a big fan of reading about sexual abuse and that dominates the second half of the story.
I really hated that Casey essentially give up her friends, family and career to follow Jake around and this is treated as a happy ending. The meeting of the family really dragged out and was so sickly sweet, everyone gets along famously with everyone leaving dealing with the abuse as the only conflict. The characters start out being complex and interesting and end up oversimplified and dull. They also react to situations in illogical ways. Personally if my partner was anxious about surgery, my first reaction wouldn't be 'why didn't you tell me, let's cancel it'.
I think this writer has a lot of potential, but they're not there yet. This is not a 5 star book. I'll be keeping an eye out for future work though.
