The Cloud had become sentient. It can think for itself and starts to correct the mistakes made on Earth by its human inhabitants. It has no ethical guidance and it's decisions are based purely on algorithms. Every individual now has a neural implant behind their left eye called Iris which connects them to the internet, as well as defining their status in society. People can watch the news in real time, communicate with each other and download any information they want from The Cloud. As Iris sets out to 'repair' the World, millions die because they have been deemed 'surplus to requirements' as they have not contributed positively to society. The story follows the lives of two children, Cayden and Stella who grow up in this era of advanced technology. The problem is, this advanced technology is killing people. They both fulfil their childhood ambitions to become astronauts, and now the future of the World depends on them. The solution to this problem however, cannot be solved here on Earth.
