To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
The first thing I thought halfway through the first story, was how it evoked the same feelings as The Bodysurfers by Robert Drewe. Comparisons between the two are unfair, as much as I want to say this feels like a feminine Drewe, writing in the same rich vein of Australiana, the voice is completely unique. I really enjoyed these short stories, the yearning for the summer sun, the innocence lost and the melancholy for the loves that can't love us back. Five stars.
Chrysalis is comprised three short stories aimed at YA female audience. I as a 30 year old man still found the book thoroughly enjoyable. I look forward to reading more of Rachel's work, it will be great to see how her expertise at short form are translated into a long form novel.
