The shapes are made in a cute but easy to differentiate such that my son can identify what he is fishing. He knows the green one is a crab, white is fish and the blue one is an octopus. My only wish is that the fishing line be longer, but at the same time it must have been a safety (strangulation) concern from a design perspective.
I like the simplicity of it and that the handle winds so the child has to work on fine motor skills; however, you barely get one whole turn of the crank before it’s reeled in, making the child realize it’s easier just to lift the whole rod. I will probably return it. I would love if the string was longer.
Our oldest boys (4 & 2) went through a season of being completely obsessed with this little rod — in and out of the bathtub. Was great for dexterity and hand-eye coordination as they tried to “catch” everything. As a fisherman, I love the idea of getting them used to the feel of a fishing rod early!
My 10 month old doesn't use the rod yet but loves playing with the floating shapes in the bath...easy to handle and since they float they don't disappear in the water...my 9 year old son tried out the rod in his bath and then the pool and was quite entertained...
