THIS book is a long time favourite among the Aussie bushwalking and outdoors fraternity...
Dating back to the late '50s/early 60s, the original first edition would still be up there among the top five "bushcraft"/survival texts in this country..
After Richard Graves's "Australian Bushcraft" (the perennial favourite ~ often ranked as "the" original bushcraft handbook, as it was based on Richard Graves's WWII Army manuals ~ and his 1950s text "spawned a generation" of survival manuals that followed ~ including the 'Bushman's Handbook' , I would personally rate this "Bushman's Handbook" as my #2, but that's just my opinion. While it may vary with other readers, I reckon most - if not all - would still include it in somewhere in their top 10 once they have read it.
With it going out of print previously in the late 1970s or early '80s, I consider it well overdue for a reprint. This has been one of those books that I had on my wish list whenever I visited second-hand book shops and sales.. (With both this and "Australian Bushcraft" I took them out of the local library several times when I was still at school..).
So fond memories and emotions help to elevate this to five stars for me !
AS with the Richard Graves "Australian Bushcraft", the Bushman's Handbook is equally a no nonsense, down to earth, and quite practical bushcraft, camping and survival handbook, that I reckon deserves a place in every 'outdoorsman's' (and woman's) library..
