I received this book for an honest review on the behalf of "A kiss down under book blog":
Book 1 in a paranormal series, we meet Jack, a paranormal hunter and Cindy a paranormal herself with the power of fire. This is not your normal paranormal story with vampires, etc. What I did enjoy about this book was that it had a story line that I haven't come across before, the story was well written and flowed easily. Now what did get to me a bit was Jack. I would not class him as a strong alpha male. To put it bluntly he was a bit soft for my liking. Don't get me wrong he does have some great attributes, but it was hard not to get frustrated with him. Plus I do struggle with people being completely in love in the sparse of 3 weeks.
The books ends with a bit of a cliff hanger. I'm just hoping that in the next book things do get explained more because near the end of this book you are introduced to new characters with the ending resolving around them. I also am hoping that we get more of a background on how these paranormals became exposed to "normal" people, thus becoming "hunted". Overall I give this book 3 1/2 stars.

Out for revenge for his family’s deaths, Jack Marilla finally tracks down and captures the culprit, Cindy Chase but she claims to be innocent and he’s finding it hard not to believe her in this captivating paranormal romance. The author has created a fascinating world that promises some exciting and fascinating stories with intriguing characters with interesting gifts and refreshingly different elements. The ending of Jack and Cindy’s story could have been a little better but then again their story may continue in the next book, so I will reserve judgment on that and look forward to reading it.

You may question why I rated the book with 4-stars after you read my review but I believe in giving credit when an author does a good job.

The story was well written but the characters did not click for me. They seemed to be a little flat in the reading. Seriously did not like the male lead Jake. He was immature, a little needy, selfish and self-centered and petty. You would think these qualities might make for an interesting character. For me it just made for a irritated reader.

Cindy’s character I am going to call in to question but I also could understand to a small degree why she did not try hard enough to get a way. Hey, shock at seeing someone come back from the dead will do this to a person. She truly needed to grow a pair after she found out how he came to be alive. Nope, showing no patience for the love she had for this idiot as an excuse.

This was the second book in two days that I did not like. Maybe I am going thru a phase of hating certain types of books but these two books had nothing in common other than they irritated me but I read them to the end.

2.0 out of 5 stars Too many negative emotions and the sex scenes were out of place 25 July 2015
By irene - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
The two main characters spent too much of the book at odds. There's a powerful backstory and history between them, which has fueled Jack's rage for two years. By 70% of the book he's still fighting between his rage and his attraction to Cindy. He hates her so much that after he captures her, he's very rough with her and strikes her face. That was tough to read. The sheer amount of fury and pain in him is overwhelming--the author did a good job depicting that, it was totally believable--so it wouldn't be easy to let go of, and I didn't believe his attitude towards Cindy could completely turn around in the space of a single day after he has held such strong negative emotions against her for two years. Plus, we don't get the payoff of seeing him being loving towards Cindy or doing anything to demonstrate remorse for being so brutal to her. I felt like I wasn't happy to see Cindy with him because he hasn't really proven that he will care for her or be kind to her. He felt like a bad risk to me and I couldn't believe that they would be happy together.

Beyond that, the sex scenes felt like they were placed there for the sake of having sex scenes. They were really inappropriate to the context of the story and the plot development. I could maybe accept that Jack was still sexually attracted to Cindy and wants to sleep with her even though he hates her and wants her to pay for killing his family. But it was impossible for me to accept that Cindy could still get horny around him when she's held in chains and he has hit her and thrown something at her. And, after she finds out where he keeps the key to her shackles she's still more interested in sexytimes than in trying to get hold of the key to free herself. Later, they're in a very urgent situation but somehow still have time for a quickie. That made me roll my eyes.

The good thing, though, is that this is a stand-alone story with a HFN (happy-for-now) ending, not a cliffhanger as some other reviewers have said. In the final chapter, the focus shifts to Jamie and Ethan, as a sort of tease to entice us to buy the next book "A Shock to Your System" which tells their story. That's the cliffhanger, but Jack and Cindy's story doesn't end in a cliffhanger. I was thankful for that, at least.
5.0 out of 5 stars Too Hot To Handle 15 August 2016

This is the first book in the dangerous Creatures series. This book besides Cindy being hot Is HOT. Jack and Cindy have the connection that we all look for, unconditional love. A connection that time cannot erase. When Cindy thought Jack was dead she didn't want to go on. Jack wanted to destroy Cindy just as she destroyed his life. But truth is not how it's perceived.

This is an intense, heart pounding story that keeps you on the edge of your seat and surprises you in the end.
5.0 out of 5 stars Adults Only Book. Great Book, with Lots of Suspense, and Some Surprises! 16 June 2016

This book was an enjoyable read that was hard to put down for the night. There's lots of questions, doubts, and trust issues, that need to be resolved in the following book. However, in the meantime, this one has a lot of material to mull over with enough different directions that it could take, to keep anyone from being able to guess what comes next. Nicely done, and also fun and fresh, a step in the right direction, away from the typical sweetheart, paranormal, story! Thank you!
5.0 out of 5 stars Alone or in the box set (Dangerous Creatures [on sale 8/25/16) Jack and Cindy are hot! 18 August 2016

Burns Like Fire (Dangerous Creatures Book 1) is the first book in the box set (Dangerous Creatures) that will be coming out Aug 25, 2016. Make sure you buy the set because it is awesome!
This book has a hunter (Jack) searching for his ex-paranormal girlfriend (Cindy) who is believed to have started the fire that killed Jack's father and brothers. He eventually finds her and all hell breaks loose in his life. It a suspenseful, hot, sexy HEA that will leave you breathless and smiling.
The box set includes this book and two others that are just as good as this one. Each book is a branch off of the first one.Burns Like Fire (Dangerous Creatures Book 1) Mandy Rosko has also included a novella in the box set that is not related except that the main character is also a hunter that works for the same company that is in the other three books.
How do I know all of this? I'm an ARC reader. I received a copy of the box set in exchange for an honest and fair review.
My opinion, you would most likely enjoy this book or even the box set if you like paranormal HEA's, dragons, fire starters, electricity control, werewolves and an ice thrower!
