Wow. Seriously wow. This book is flawless.
I love reading ARCs of up and coming authors, but it is refreshing to read a novel by an author who has worked hard at their art and who can deliver simple perfection. This is one of those books and Tara Sivec is one of those authors. Her Chocolate Lovers series was simply the funniest series of books I have ever read. This book surpasses those novels, not in humour, but in clarity and emotion. It was simply fabulous.

Finnley has spend the last 17 years, putting up with and forgiving her piece of s*** husband. But when one more act pushes her over the edge she makes the decision to take her life back and leaves him. On the first night officially being separated from the s***bag she bumps into the first man to ever break her heart. Collin, her high school boyfriend, who broke up with her in a letter passed on by his best friend DJ. Over the years she has thought of Colin, and even admits to a little cyber stalking him, but she always stayed loyal to Jordan, her husband. When they see each other for the first time in 17 years, the powerful connection that they once had is still there. But Finnlay is scared. She is scared to trust her feelings, she is scared to move on so quickly after Jordan and she is scared to finally face up to her dreams.
Collin admits that breaking up with Lee after DJ convinces him to, one night when they are drunk, is the single most stupid idea he has even made in his life. And watching her move on so quickly with Jordan was like salt it he wound. But he also has been keeping track of her via facebook, and when they serendipitously meet again he takes his chance to get her out of his system.

I think the title is appropriate in more ways than one. Yes she's been burnt in so many ways. There's always your first love & then there's another who captures your heart. The latter broke Finnleys numerous times. You can only take so much.
A chance meeting reunites a first love. Collin became a fireman & comes to her rescue even saving her life. Well it is hot but not just from the fire. The analogies are well done. I liked it, even with all the drama.

2.0 out of 5 stars Caution: sugar shock ahead!!! 12 June 2014

For some reason I was really looking forward to this book being released but it was disappointing. I know it's fiction but for me it needs to be fairly realistic and this just didn't cut it. I was doing okay until I got to the part where Finnley and Collin ran into each other at a bar for the first time in 17 years. I mean seriously, they were still so in love with each other they practically had sex in the hallway outside the bathroom? It all seemed to go downhill from there. The part of the story with Jordan could have added a lot to the story but seemed like it was just an afterthought. By about halfway through the book I was "swipe, swipe, swipe, read a paragraph, swipe, swipe...". It seemed like the majority of the book at that point was Collin and Finnley thinking about each other, how much they still loved each other, how different their relationship was than any other they had ever had, how desperately they couldn't wait to see each other again, how they wished they had stayed together in high school, blah blah blah. There was almost nothing going on other than what was in their heads. They were so perfect as individuals and for each other I started to feel a little sick to my stomach. SUCH a waste of $3.99!!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars I don't understand. 26 January 2015

I don't understand how books like these get such stellar reviews. There is a real lack of depth with this book. Our heroine stays 17 years with a man who is not good. At that point it's half of her life she's been with him. She reconnects with her high school boyfriend with head-spinning speed, and there is once again, no substance to this relationship. There is so much sex and yes it's well-written but their entire relationship feels so rushed. The basis of this speed is their high school relationship but that's very thinly described too.

I am tired of exes who have no history of domestic violence suddenly turning into physically abusive men. SPOILER. Or turn into a murderous one. All an author has to do is google to understand how a partner typically turns violent. It's not usually sudden, they typically exhibit all the signs. Why can't author get creative with how exes can leaf to conflict? There are plenty of ways to use that trope and yet they all choose the same ones. I think the excuse here for the behavior that is completely inconsistent with previous description is the drugs but he's been on the drugs for many, many years and never exhibited that behavior. I cannot recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Smoldering Hot 9 June 2014

Buy this book!! Buy this book!! Buy this book!! Tara Sivec has done it again. My heart is still racing and beating out of my chest from this story. In this fire themed book, Finnley and Collin set the pages on fire. Seventeen years ago they were high school sweethearts. As with most teenaged romances theirs came to an end. Collin broke her heart, but she has never forgotten about him for those seventeen years. Of course life went on for both of them, but a chance meeting gave them their second chance. The prologue will keep you guessing as to how this story will unfold. I won't say anything else about it as not to spoil anything. I read with anticipation to see how this story would play out. You will not want to put the book down. You want to race to the end to see if there is a happy ending or not. Hot, hot, hot, scenes develop throughout the book. Having rescue workers in my family, I understand the feeling that unraveled near the end of the book. Oh yeah, Collin is a hot firefighter! That just goes along with the theme. Tara engages you with her characters. She makes you feel as if you are right there in the book with them. Not only is fire a theme, but the number 17 is a theme as well. It's all in the blurb, but as you read you will understand the meaning of 17 more clearly. No cliffhanger. Dual point of view.

4.0 out of 5 stars smokin" 23 June 2014

Finnley Morgan is unhappily married but she's ready to stop being miserable. Her husband Jordan has ruined all the dreams she had. He has been fighting with constant addictions, he can't keep a job and he has never supported Finn. After seventeen years, she is ready to finally go through a separation.

A month after her separation, she meets her first boyfriend Collin. Collin McDaniels is a firefighter. He broke up with Finn with a letter when they were in high school after dating for 2 years. She was hurt until she met Jordan who helped her move on. Seeing Collin again stirs emotions in her which she thought were long gone.

Collin can't believe it when he sees Finn. He kept tabs on her over the years and he can't be happier knowing she's free of the guy who took what was his. This is his second chance and he's determined not to fail.
The only problem is Jordan, he doesn't want Finn with anyone else.

My thoughts:

I took this book for what it was. It's an erotic novella, so I knew it was short. I knew the characters will get together without much delay. What I didn't know is how the story pulled me from the first chapter. I devoured it.
Tara Sivec can write any type of romance novels. I'm a fan of her Chocolate Lovers series and I couldn't wait to read Burned. I hope we get a second book in this series.
If I had to find something wrong with this book it would be the length. I couldn't get enough of the characters and a longer novel would've made my day.

“You were my fire, Collin. I lost the desire to play with it when you left.”

5.0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Storm of Emotions 9 June 2014
By Sarah Griffin - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
~Once wasn’t enough. Twice wasn’t sufficient. Every day until I die wouldn’t stop the burn.~

Thoughts into words. Thoughts into words. I keep repeating this mantra, because after literally JUST finishing this book, I am a jumble of emotions. I can hear everything I want to say in my head, but it won’t quiet down enough to put the proverbial pen to paper. From the minute that Tara announced this book into existence, I knew I HAD to have it. Unlike any of her other books, it was in a genre all its own. Breaking the mold, and busting through the darn door, this was contemporary erotica at its best. And while the sex scenes were scorching, for me, it wasn’t the main focus of the book. This book was, in its purest form, a love story. A story of dreams thought read coming back to life. A story of recovering from a life you thought you were stuck in. A story of love that never truly dies. It was a story of rekindling, and Tara lit the pages up!

~ To heck with maybe. I’ve spent seventeen years building a life on effing maybes.~

I can say, without a doubt, that Finnley and Collin are the BEST characters I have ever read. Tara is a master of her talent, and what she excels in is writing characters that everyone can relate to; characters that have heart and soul and are just like you and me. When you start one of her books, that awkward adjustment period you find yourself in with many others simply doesn’t exist within her pages. She’s a reader’s writer. The connection with the characters, even the ones you loathe, is instantaneous. Like old friends you haven’t seen for years, everything just falls into place once you are together again. It’s as if no time has passed and it just feels as natural as breathing. This was much like the relationship of Finnley and Collin. High school sweethearts who split, now seventeen years later, on the heels of her filing for separation from her husband, they come back into each other’s lives. Their connection is instant, but not instant love; rather a love that never really died. I can’t decide what I enjoyed more; their present or their past. I think I loved them equally for completely different reasons. In the past, we are gifted a glimpse into how perfect they were for each other; how well they complemented one another. They came into each other’s lives at a time when they both needed it, and that translates into adulthood in the same manner. Learning from the mistakes of their past, when they are reunited, it’s magic on the pages. Time has changed them, but yet it didn’t. When I wasn’t burning with lust, this book just made me smile. There’s no one specific reason why, it was just one of those books that clicked. It was everything.

~ Maybe Collin came into my life at this point in time because I was finally ready for him.~

I loved that they just GOT each other. Though one minor bump in the road in the beginning, they just fell naturally into place. It was then that I realized that some things truly DO happen for a reason. There was a sense of dread from the beginning, and you aren’t really sure how it’s going to end. I knew how I wanted to end, but I was on the edge of my seat the entire book to see if it was realized. Was it? Well, you’ll just have to find out for yourself. I will say this. There were tears. Big, fat, crocodile tears. I couldn’t stop them if I tried. But I also wouldn’t change a single moment. It’s been a while since I felt this strongly about a book and I think it’s finally pulled me out my slump.

~“I would have sacrificed everything to make your dreams come true, Lee.”~

If there were one perfect song I could think of to sum up this book, it would be Nickelback’s Far Away. Bonus? Like Collin, there are firefighters in the video. Oh, did I not mention that Collin is a firefighter?! How amiss of me ;-) So yeah. Dirty talking firefighter, phenomenally talented heroine, and two characters with hearts splayed open for the world to see. This book was the perfect storm of emotions and I don’t ever want to recover. And it’s aptly titled, because it will burn your panties right off!

~“You are everything to me, Finnley, everything. I have loved you since I was fifteen years old and I’m never going to stop.”~
