Dax knows restraint. I don't think I'm giving too much away by letting slip that for as long as he's known her, he's been in love with the beautiful Lynsie.

That, of course, would be all fine and dandy if it weren't for the small matter of her being married to, and desperately in love with, his best friend Lincoln.

Consequently, unlike so many other novels where the alpha male swoops in to get the girl, Dax does the noble thing ... nothing. Stays friends with Lincoln, and with Lynsie, suffers patiently as she sets him up on date after date, trying to find him the perfect woman all the while knowing he's already found her, and she isn't available.

Then, in a tragic twist of fate, Lincoln is removed from the picture leaving the road open for Dax to be exactly what Lynsie needs in her time of sorrow, a friend. Just a friend, and maybe someday, eventually, something more.

There's a wonderful nobility in Dax's restraint. Time and again pushing aside his own wants, needs and desires, because the strongest of his desires is to see to Lynsie's needs. That's not just a romance novel cliche, that's real love shared via the written word.

There are books that stick with you long after you've read them, and I strongly suspect that this is one of them, because, strange as it may seem, it stuck with me for a year before I got around to reading it.

The wife read it a year ago, and as she does with most books she reads, she told me all about it as she was reading, and even that second hand retelling of the story was powerful.

Reading it for myself, even more so.

This is such a brilliant story. I guessed what was coming from the blurb and was hoping that I wouldn't come to love the husband but I did. And still managed to really enjoy the story. Must read!

This wasn't a bad story, I just found it a bit depressing & predictable. I couldn't get into it. I did however like Dax.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing! 13 March 2014

Great book! I was so hesitant to purchase this book because of the preview of the story. I was thinking how on earth am I going to like reading a book about a girl who loses her husband and then jumps in bed with his best friend. I just didnt think I could get on board with something like that, but I was WRONG! I tried the sample and was hooked. Erika developed all the characters and let us have a glimpse of Lynsies relationship with her husband before his death. We fell in love with Linc and Dax, which was what pulled at my heartstrings when watching Dax and Lynsie fall in love too! Their love, especially Daxs for Lynsie was so evident and really unconditional. Watching them build a new relationship and watching Dax show extreme patience waiting for Lynsies feelings to play catch up was heartwarming. The journey of love, loss and love again was perfect. This book was a five star read!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wind beneath my wings. 11 March 2014

I was given a ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Wow. This book blew me away. Erika outdoes herself yet again.
From the start you can see and feel how much Lincoln and Lynsie love each other and then there is their best friend Dax. These are a trio if I ever saw one. The relationship this bunch has is very touching and emotional. Let me tell you now you will need A LOT of kleenex. I am still sobbing while writing this. It`s a tear jerker for sure. Lynsie`s life is perfect. She has the perfect life. And then all hell breaks loose and her life will never be the same. I really cannot give much more away then that. Anything more would give it away. All I can say is Lynsie`s life is shattered and she must pick of the pieces of her life. But will she be able to do that? will she be able to spread her wings and soar again? can Dax find happiness and a life he deserves of his own? you will have to read to find out all these answers. But let me tell you it is an amazingly beautiful story. Very touching and it was hard to put down once started. A must read.

“ The way you taste, baby, it puts every rainbow to shame.”

“Sometimes it`s when you aren`t looking that you find what you`ve been needing all along without ever knowing it was what you wanted.”

“Sometimes we don`t know how strong we truly are, until we have no choice.”

“I have a feeling you were made just for me,”

“Wherever we land, I know you`ll catch me. And that`s the best damn feeling ever.”

“the love I feel for you is unreal, I`ve never felt this type of love before. I believe you`re the one for me. My soul mate.”

5.0 out of 5 stars On the Wings of Fate 12 March 2014

This was a wonderful story of triumph, healing and true love born out of tragedy and fate.

Erika introduces us to the ultimate military couple Lincoln & Lynsie. He is a pilot that is climbing up the ranks and is going to be an Army lifer. She is the daughter of an Army Commander soon to be General. Also meet Dax, who is Lincoln's life-long best friend/brother. He loves being a pilot but not necessarily the Army life. He is truly the ultimate best friend even to Lynsie. They seem to be in the dynamic duo with the trusty side-kick....only the side-kick harbors feelings of his own.

When Lincoln loses a good friend due to a crash he concludes that life is too short to put things off. Things in their relationship they have been putting off suddenly come to the fore-front. Their future is moving along beautifully until tragedy strikes in their own home.

Come read how Erika writes how these amazing characters pick up the pieces when one of their own family isn't there any more. Watch how fate shows us that what we thought was not necessarily so. And how out of tragedy a wonderful and beautiful relationship between two soul mates is born.

Erika has out done herself with Broken Wings. This is such an amazing book. I usually do not read military themed books but am so glad that after reading Jenn' Foor's Love's Suicide (another military book) I was steered in the direction of this book. I have read every book Erika has written and with each one her writing keeps maturing.

Congrats Erika on such a great book!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another wonderful read 13 March 2014

I was given this book to read before published & I couldn't have been more blown away at the way the story was told about Linc & Lynsie & their best friend Dax. Linc & Lynsie almost seemed "real" b/c I felt their emotions of how deepely they loved each other & felt that "connection". Their story literally had me in tears & wonderment. I got so emotionally wrapped up that I felt my soul hurt when Linc knew he was going to die & Dax was left with the responsability of taking care of the most important person between both of them, Lynsie. But I knew that Dax would take care of Lynsie & they could grieve together. Linc was her first true love but in the end when thier hearts were "better" & Lynsie knew she had to give her daughter more than a broken shell of who she was I felt it in my bones that Dax would be her rock & both could survive together. I felt the lust that Lynsie & Dax had built as well & it was hot! Like 2 poeple who just needed each other & knew it was right! This story was about first loves, hope, loss, hurt, new love, finding happiness again. Linc will always be in my soul but Dax & Lynsie have my heart. Couldn't have asked for a more touching story.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not quite what I hoped for 12 April 2014

This story had a ton of potential. Being an Army wife I have a soft spot for soldiers and their stories of love. For me, this one came up short. The pace was very slow. A play by play of each day dragged. I understand wanting to pull the readers into the story but everything took too long. When the big bang finally appeared it was anticlimactic. The descriptions seemed lacking and the main character even came off a bit bratty and spoiled. I know we all have our moments but. I was also distracted by some of the comments/details. Coming right out of high school to be a pilot doesn't happen with a snap of your fingers. (My husband whose been in for 18 yrs even gave a grunt when I read some of it to him. His other comment was, 'Wow, motivated.') I've been surrounded by military for almost forty years (family, friends, and spouse) and rising up in the ranks isn't as easy as it sounded, even if only off handed comments. AND a CWO (Chief Warrant Officer) doesn't become a General!! (different ranking system between Warrant Officers and Officers) All I can say is research!! If you don't know something look it up!! I was shocked to read (after finishing to story) that the author was actually an 'Army brat' since she really only got the catty, bitchy women correct. I wanted to chuck the book across the room but I love my Kindle too much to watch it smash against the wall. I'm a tad bit detail oriented so I had many grrrr moments.

I kept reading, hoping for something to make this book spectacular. I really wanted to root for it!! Taking a step back, the story itself is sweet!! Losing love to find it again after tragedy is heartwarming. I love the idea of the storyline since I've seen the destruction military life causes. I couldn't fully relax into the book though, but I wish I could have!! I don't hate the book by any means, it's nice. Just not my favorite.
