Product Description

It is often said that time heals all wounds. The words are spoken like a promise... A vow. These words are said to people who have been beaten down to their lowest state. To the poor souls who have nothing left to lose. Whispered into the ear of a grieving daughter, told with a shrug to a man who has nothing left to live for.

These are dangerous people.

The down-trodden. The grieving. The ones who love more people dead than alive.

The words should never be uttered. Not to the ones who have no solid ground on which to stand upon, no rail in which to clasp. The white-knuckled moments of life have come to be expected rather than feared.

"Time heals all wounds."

The words are an insult. A slap in the face... and around here, they'll get you hurt. For Averi McClain and her husband Colt, there were few deeper insults.

In the wake of Black Horse's death, a war has erupted. The Seventy Devils are scattered and on alert, gnawing at the bit for the go-ahead to strike. They would not hesitate to spill the blood of anyone who stood in their way of recompense. They knew they would need to act fast if they wanted to come out on top. Colt was not the kind of guy that you slept on. He'd stop at nothing to protect his family and he was lethal whether he was heavily armed or going toe to toe, bare knuckled beat-down style. Colt did have Black Horse's blood coursing through his veins, after all. But then, so did Jimmy, and he is ready to show everyone that the apple didn't fall far from the tree... in fact, they appear to have formed on the same poisoned branch.

As leader of the Devils, Jimmy had seventy miscreants to do his bidding - and three goals in which he needed to achieve:

1.Avenge Black Horse
2.Kill Colt McClain and Randy Ford
3.Take Averi for his own

Jimmy has another thing coming if he thinks victory is easily won. Will Colt and Averi's broken road end in tragedy? Or will they be the ones to banish the devils straight to hell? When the demons of the past rise up, can Colt and Randy face them fearless and determined? Whatever happens, don't expect Colt and Randy to stand alone. Buckle up. The broken road makes for one hell of a ride.

“Time heals all wounds.”

****4 ½ Beaten & Broken Fighter Stars****
~this review may contain minor spoilers~

Their childhood was a battlefield. Colt and Averi didn't want that for their own sons and daughters. What does time do to wounds? Time is nothing but a reminder of how much time has passed since you last saw the ones you love most. The line is bull$**t. A scape goat. A cheap cop-out. It is something that people say when they don't know what to say. It's not deep or sympathetic. It doesn't stop the heart from bleeding.

Colt & Averi faced their worst nightmare together when Black Horse returned, and they lived to tell the tale, though not without some scars. Now married with a baby on they way, they may think the worst was put behind them with Black Horses death... they would be wrong; the war is just beginning and it's about to take a violent bloody turn. With the death of their leader, The Seventy Devils are on a rampage; lawless, soulless, and seeking revenge, they will stop at nothing and take out anyone who stands in their way. They are nothing short of a powder keg just waiting to go off and Jimmy Hearns is the match ready to ignite them. He is about to prove to everyone that he is indeed his fathers son as he leads The Devils into war with three things in mind; 1-get revenge for the death of Black Horse. 2-Kill Colt and Randy. 3-Take Averi for his own. But he is about to learn that taking on the McClain's & Ford's is easier said than done, even with The Seventy Devils at his back. And things get even more complicated when a ghost from Randy's past comes barreling in at the worst time possible, adding another twist into their already dangerous, chaotic lives. Every war has it's casualties, who will be left standing at the end of this one?

Broken Road started right where Black Horse left off...with the need for retribution. But I'd first like to say that if you have not read Black Horse yet, go read that book first because it will help you to fully understand the angst, the love, and the need for retribution. Colton and Avery fought hard to keep their love strong, and fought even harder to make a new stronger family out of what was left of the broken one Black Horse left in his wake. Black Horse was hard and fast paced that it kept me on edge, but Broken Road had me hollering at the characters. Especially at the dense Randy Ford, he really needed to pull his head out of the sand and follow his heart.
Addison Kline did not disappoint with this book. It just might have been a perfect ending to the situation at hand, but I honestly hope we hear more about these characters. They really did grow on me.

How much can one family go through?
Finally the blight of the earth, Black Horse, is gone. You'd think life could resume as normal for Colt, Averie, Randy, Tim and Shelly. Nope!
They have to deal with more vermin.
I love the connection between Averie and her brothers with Colt. They are so protective of each other.
It gave me lots of moments of dispair and I did have a cry at the emotions I felt when the friends all backed Colt and co up as all the Seventy Devils MC came looking for revenge.
It brought me to tears. Big fat tears.
I was reading so fast to try and get to the end and see what happened next.

You must read book 1 before you read this.

Broken Road is the second book in Addison Kline’s Breaking Black series. After ridding the world of Black Horse, you’d think that it would be smooth sailing for Averi, Colt and their family. Unfortunately with the news of Jimmy Hearns being Colt’s half-brother, Jimmy working with the motor cycle club, Seventy Devils to exact revenge against Colt and his family for their father’s death and wanting to take Averi as his own, they along with their family were headed for more rough seas. But with the help of their Uncle Shawn, they are better equipped to survive the incoming storm.

In this book, you not only follow the story of Colt and Averi, but also of Randy and Cheyenne. I was more drawn to their story because I found Randy to be an intriguing character. How can one so loving towards his family be so angry about anything and everything? And how could he hate Cheyenne so much? Randy and Cheyenne, whose stepfather was a member of the Seventy Devils were high school sweethearts. Their relationship was not always an easy one, but they made the best of their situation. Giving each other that little bit of happiness they both needed living in a tragic world. Unfortunately it was her addiction to drugs and alcohol that caused Randy to end the relationship. That and catching her in their bed with one of the members of the Seventy Devils.

This story was full of suspense and touching moments. Addison did an excellent job with tying up all the loose ends leaving this reader happy and satisfied. But I am suspecting this is will not be my last visit to Oakeley, TX.

5.0 out of 5 stars Man am i glad he is dead 24 October 2015

Wow! What a thrill this book is. Exciting is just not a strong enough word. The emotions you go through reading the story are incredible. It takes right off from the first book in the series with the death of Black Horse. Man am i glad he is dead, but Jimmy seems to have a plan of his own. With no one knowing that Jimmy is also Black Horse's son, he has to go to great lengths to concoct a plan to get the Seventy Devils to back him up. Jump on this crazy roller coaster with the characters and enjoy the ride. The craziness that ensues traps your attention and takes complete hold of you! I loved this book. Addison is an amazing writer and it shines brightly through her books. Colt is relentless in making sure his girl and the family are safe. With a new baby on the way they are taking every caution they can. Jimmy and the Devils are hot on the trail to find them since they moved. Randy seems to be more open in this one so you get to learn what happened to him. Cheyenne turns out to be running for her life. Can Randy save the girl he loves? The sheriff does what he can to keep his family safe. The Seventy Devils seem to have eyes and ears every where. A final showdown at the ranch is truly epic! Averi is one heck of a woman. She defends her family and home the best way she can from her attic perch. Which turns out to be perfect because the Devils can't figure out whats going on till it is to late. Finally all the horrible stuff behind them.. Colt and Averi are free of Black Horse, Jimmy, and the Seventy Devils. A perfect little baby boy is brought to this world free to have a beautiful life. I am so happy i read the book. It could not have ended on a better note.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a read. 17 September 2015

Broken Road is the perfect follow-up to black horse. This book has a darkness in it at times that was hard to wrap my mind around. How much devastation and loss can one family take without breaking? Colton McClain is a hero that could easily fall into the dark side if anything ever happened to his love, Averi. The last string to his humanity. The dynamics between the Ford brothers and Colt are riding the edge of love and hate. The best thing I never lost sight of in this book was the complete devotion and love between Colt and Averi. The witty banter between the all the characters was enough to keep it light and comical at times and brought a good balance to all the dark. I felt the tears and the anxiety right along with Averi. Great read! Great job.

5.0 out of 5 stars After Black Horse 14 August 2014
By Vickie Carter - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
I read Black Horse and couldn't wait for Broken Road to be released. I do recommend reading Black Horse to grasp all the emotions of Averi and Colt and the devastation that came their way. Now that Black Horse is dead Colt's half-brother, Jimmy Hearns, has taken over the notorious Seventy Devils. Jimmy decided he's going to revenge his father's death and make Colt pay. Jimmy thinks that if it were not for Colt that Averi would have been his. This book tells how Jimmy became so fixated with Averi. While in Black Horse the other family and friends were not so much involved in the storyline, they are very much involved in this one. Jimmy appoints himself the new leader of the Seventy Devils after revealing he is a son of Black Horse as well. Jimmy is known for using women and getting them hooked on cocaine, dropping them and leaving them with an addiction that only he can provide a fix to. Randy finds out the true story behind Cheyenne and Trent. Was that reason enough for them to reconcile or do they? You'll have to read Broken Road to find out for yourself. Shelley and Tim have their own storyline as well. What is it? Read and find out. Uncle Shawn reveals the information everyone has been wanting to know. Who killed Black Horse? After all the dead-in-love-and-war blood bath Colt finds out he inherited the Seventy Devils HQ. What does he decide to do with it? Does Oakeley finally decide that Colt is nothing like his father? These any many other questions that are answered.
4.0 out of 5 stars I love it when alpha men fight for the ones they love! 29 September 2015

This book begins right after Black Horse ends, so it's a good idea to read the series in order or you'll be lost. Black Horse is dead, but instead of making the Mclain's and their family/friends safe, all that's done is cause a need for revenge by Black Horse's supporters, the Seventy-Seven Devils and Jimmy Hearns.

This story doesn't focus solely on one romantic relationship, but the one I was most concerned with was Randy and Cheyenne. They're split up due to Cheyenne's drug addiction and betrayal of Randy and they're both miserable. Chey has gotten herself involved with the wrong group of people and they want nothing better than to use her for their own purposes and get rid of her.
Jimmy Hearns thinks he can use Chey to get to Randy and his brothers, ultimately getting revenge for his father and claiming Avery as his own. What he doesn't realize is that love runs deeper than anything he can throw at Cheyenne and she refuses to bring Randy down. He may not want her anymore, but she knows it's her fault and is willing to sacrifice herself to save him and his family.

The bigger picture is a situation that ends up being a war between the two opposing groups of the town. Lives are lost, good guys end up being bad guys in disguise, and the bonds of love and family are tested and strengthened.

All the parts dealing with Randy and Chey are preparing us for the next book, which focuses more on their journey to get back to where they used to be.

The issues within the town may seem over, but you know what they say about things that seem too good to be true, right?
