Product Description

All of his life, Caden DeMott’s mismatched eyes have made him the target of superstition and scorn. Though he is the son of a nobleman, he’s been allowed to run free over the hills and moors, mostly ignored by his family. No one ever thought to inform him that he had been betrothed since infancy, until the day his fiancé, Prince Rhys Gwyther arrived to marry him.
Rhys is the prince of the small island country of Mauritania, a land rich in gems, rose oil, and pearls, but poor in skilled artisans and seeds to grow crops. In order to further cement the trade route to the mainland, he’s been sent to marry a man he’s never met, and bring him back to Mauritania. Unfortunately, an accident years before has left Rhys with a lot of emotional baggage and very little trust in strangers.
But trust is exactly what Caden and Rhys are going to need if they are to make a life together, and help unravel the mystery of who’s been smuggling valuable gems and pearls off the island. Add in the realization that Caden’s stepmother, Mildred and her island representative, Maxwell, have been importing inferior goods for years, forcing Mauritania to become more dependent on them, and trust becomes even more difficult.
Caden possesses the knowledge to finally allow Rhys’ father to unravel the plot to ruin Mauritania, but only if the king and his son are willing to put their faith in Caden’s loyalty to his new home. Something that is difficult to do after Caden is accused of cheating on his marriage vows to Rhys with his guard, Luc. Will Rhys believe him innocent? Or will their marriage be over before it truly has a chance to begin?

HASH(0xac46dbac) out of 5 stars A really romantic zipper ripper romance 10 December 2015
By johanna - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Looking at the two gorgeous men on the cover, one would think this is a bodice ripper... wait, there's no bodice here... shirt and zipper ripper romance where the egotistical man thinks he can dominate his much smaller, weaker husband into submission.

Well, Rhys better rethink his ways because not only is Caden a little bit bigger, he is also stronger and wields weapons like a master. He is also a brilliant trade quality controller in secret.

Rewind...

Rhys is prince to Mauritania and has to marry the son of one of their more powerful trading partners. The son he is to marry has to be the eldest and that just so happens to be Caden, son of one of the noblemen who just happens to be married to a merciless and very wealthy merchant trader of the land. Caden's eyes are mismatched thereby branded by his own family and people as demon spawn. Oh, if they only knew what secrets he keeps. In the meanwhile, Rhys is married to Caden who does nothing but answer him with: Yes.

This is not a formulaic read like one would assume from such a cover, it is gorgeous in my opinion. This is really a story about how two very young men were thrown to each other in an arranged marriage and just like anyone in that position, have to find their footing to make their marriage work. They tiptoe around each other, they fight, and they argue. All part of the learning process, that is, until they uncover a web of deceit so close to home their lives and those around them are in terrible danger. It is up to Caden and Rhys to risk all or loose everything.

A broken prince marries a man with mismatched eyes, a really romantic zipper ripper romance.

HASH(0xac46f090) out of 5 stars It was okay 15 February 2016

I was hoping for more. I liked the possibilities of meeting because of their arranged marriage, but Rhys seemed to always be yelling at Camden, and without any good reason for it. Rhys is attracted to Camden the first time he sees him, but he apparently had it in his head that he needed to put Camden in his place and not show much of a kinder side to himself. At times he tried, but then he'd go back to his surly self. I liked Camden. He was sweet, great with animals, he knows when to stand up for himself and when to let things go. He wants to make the best of any situation. I didn't like Camden's dad. He says the right things to Camden, but pretty much every action he takes is horrible. He allowed Camden to have a terrible childhood, and it didn't really make any sense. He was as bad as the stepmother, because at least the stepmother didn't give him hope.

Rhys and Camden had a few times alone together (picnic), but not enough to feel much of a developing connection between them. I don't like it when books are littered with sex scenes, which certainly wasn't a problem with this book, it was lacking in that regard, at least for me.. I kept wondering when they'd finally consummate their marriage. It didn't happen till the very last chapter. I did read it all, but it was missing a few too many things for me.

HASH(0xac46f3c0) out of 5 stars Couldn't put this down! 5 December 2015
By Sinfully - Published on Amazon.com

Well what can I say about this story. It enchanted me from the first paragraph to the last. I couldn’t put it down. It took me twelve hours straight to read from cover to cover and I don’t regret a minute of it. The author took me on an emotional journey as well as a literary one. I came to care for the primary and secondary characters, especially Luc. The world Layla created was one I totally sank into. It wasn’t all roses. There was good, evil, hero’s, action … hell everything I love in a good read. To get top marks from me, a story has to contain all the drama the blurb promised - some love and tenderness and has to give my emotions a good workout. This story delivered.

If I had to have a gripe about anything, it would be the authors’ use of one of my least favorite phrases – needless to say. It’s a phrase I find redundant considering the author said what was needless to say. But, each to his own and I can forgive, due to how totally riveting the story is. I was sorry to see it end.

This could've been a slam dunk. Arranged marriages are one of my favorite tropes. This one isn't bad, but I didn't really connect with the characters. We aren't really given any cause to care about Rhys, or forgo e his brutish behavior. He simply changes his mind and suddenly cares about his husband and it's assumed we will forgive him. As for Caden, I appreciate he picked his battles and wasn't a doormat but he seems too good. Then there are all the supporting characters that either liked Camden and defended him to Rhys, but immediately disliked him, or hated him,but changed their minds without bringing us along through the struggle. There was no real struggle. Even when Rhys is mad, with one conversation, he is all understanding again and they're back to good. There is a lot of telling but not showing in this story, but overall the plot and story weren't bad. I would probably read the next in the series.
HASH(0xac46f5ac) out of 5 stars ... the author and I must say that I truly enjoyed her writing style 1 February 2016
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com

This is my first book by the author and I must say that I truly enjoyed her writing style. I really liked this book from the main to supporting characters this book was filled with a few twists and turns and it held my interest so that I wanted to continue reading until I was finished. Caden was a sweetheart and proved the point that we should never judge a book by its cover. Rhys I liked him and understood his cantankerous behaviors he saw himself as broken because of the accident and it did not help any that others thought the same thing. But with a little love, patience and redirection his true personality came to light. Caden and Rhys balanced each other out. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to any future installment in the series.
