BROKEN PASTS - an Adult Contemporary Romance (a Full Length Stand Alone Novel - No Cliff Hanger)
Mature - Ages 18 and Up.
From the Amazon Bestselling Author of 'Losing Me, Finding You' and 'Real Ugly'

“Until Nathaniel Sutherland was open and all his soul was bared for me to see, I wouldn't be satisfied.”

Theresa McMaster does not have a good track record when it comes to men. Her first husband walked out on her after a terrible miscarriage left her unable to carry any children of her own, and her estranged second husband has revealed himself to be more than just an emotional danger – he's been stalking her.

Fearing for her own safety as well as that of her family, Theresa hires a private security service and meets Nathaniel, the man whose secrets and heartaches may just outnumber her own. Drawn into the arms of the sexy stranger, Theresa fears that both of their pasts may very well be the things that keep them apart.

“You can't escape your past by running from it.”

***If you enjoy New Adult Romance, try C.M. Stunich's 'Tasting Never'. "Never Ross wants to be loved. It's that simple, but it's not that easy."

“It's a pleasure to meet you,” he said and I wasn't sure if I were hallucinating or not, but I'm almost certain he emphasized the word. Pleasure. “My name is Nathaniel Sutherland and I'm from Personal Private Security Detail.” Here he paused and removed his glasses. He didn't tear them off his face and shake his head of deliciously soft, dark hair like they do in the movies. He just removed them gently, folded the arms up and stuck them in the front pocket of his suit. His eyes made my breath catch in my throat and sent my body temperature skyrocketing. They were dark green, smooth and polished like emeralds, deep, thoughtful. Sexy. “Is that Emily on the phone?”
“Uh.” I was at a loss for words. Without another word, he reached out, plucked the phone from my fingers and put it to his ear.
“Everything is fine here, Emily,” he said with the most wicked smile I had ever seen on a man. “I'll call you later and update you with Ms. McMaster's new phone number.” He ended the call and passed the phone back to me. “May I come in?” I stepped aside without a word and he came inside, eyes scanning the room like a predator searching for prey. His muscles were tensed and even with the clean, sharp lines of his suit covering him, I could see that he was ready for action. I closed the door behind him and locked it. He glanced over one of his broad shoulders and flashed me an admirable smile. “Good,” he said as he turned his attention back to my house. “We don't have to start at ground zero with you. That's excellent.”
“Huh?” That's all I could think to say. Jamie had said the men she'd hired were tight. But … wow. Nathaniel wasn't just tight; he was deadly. He was clean shaven with pale, not pasty, just pale, skin and full lips. His dark hair was just this side of brown, toeing that line between black and chocolate. Nothing about his appearance was out of the ordinary per se, but all together, the perfection that was Nathaniel Sutherland was hard to ignore. It was the little details that made this man: the well pressed suit, perfectly tailored to his body, the crispness of the shirt beneath, the way his hair fell just slightly onto his brow, like it had been sculpted there. He was so well put together that had he had the face of a Neanderthal, he would've looked good. And that's not to say he did. Nathaniel Sutherland had a strong face, but it was in no way reminiscent of a caveman. He straddled that metrosexual line, but in a good way. He was clean, he smelt good, and he was probably gay. Had to be. Had had had to. Or else he was married. Or both.

5.0 out of 5 stars CM Stunich Delivers Again! 22 January 2013
By Marlena J. Fein - Published on

I have to say I was a bit nervous going into this book after the awesomeness that I read by CM Stunich called Tasting Never. I had this thought in my head that this read would be a bit fluffy and not what I have become accustomed to from this author. In the beginning, it was that way for me and I really became concerned, then BAM! (think Emeril voice there) she hit us with the heartache and pain that I have come to know and love! I became so engrossed in this book that I sat in the car, by myself, with it not running in Indiana January weather for an hour to finish it in peace and quiet. I loved the suspense at the end although I kind of knew what was going on. That did not stop my heart from racing, and my eyes from skipping paragraphs to confirm my suspicion however. My only regret in this book is that it is going to be a stand alone.

Theresa has a stalker, her soon to be ex-husband. Not all that uncommon nowadays, but this guy is a special kind of crazy that we only read and see about on television. In comes Nathaniel, dreamy, hunky bodyguard with a tortured past and a vengeance to keep Theresa, and her adopted daughter alive. He will do anything and everything he can to protect them. Throw in some smexy moments (and boy did Nathaniel get my blood boiling!), a crazy best friend, a much too smart for her age adopted daughter, another a-hole ex, and some LOL moments, and there you have it in short. But, you definitely want the long version, so buy the book!

In summary, this book is sure to not disappoint. Another phenomenal work from this up and coming author and let me tell you, I cannot wait to get my hands on more!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great read! 5 February 2013

I fell in love with this author's writing while reading the Never series and I was not disappointed with this book at all. This book tells the story of a stalking victim who falls for the bodyguard who she hired to protect her. Sure, the story sounds like it's been done but this is a whole different take on the dynamic. There are so many diverse personalities in this story, once again this author has me in awe of her writing and her creation of these characters. Another fabulous read by this author!!

4.0 out of 5 stars You can run but you can't hide... 19 March 2014

I have read C.M. Stunich's biker books and was not expecting this funny, serious and heart-pounding story about a pretty scary topic...stalking. There are some crazy Ex's running around in the world and poor Theresa has a couple of doozies. One that wants to control her and refuses to give her any respect or treat their adopted daughter as a father should (first husband Glen) and another soon to be EX who wants her back at any and all costs (psycho stalker husband Gary).
Enter Nathaniel, her sexy as hell and tough as granite bodyguard for hire, who storms into her life, sweeps Theresa off of her feet and makes it his mission to protect her from the lunatic Gary before he can do any more harm or possibly kill her.
Some pretty heavy secrets are revealed when Theresa and Nathaniel get closer and begin to have feelings for each other and the last few chapters of the book are full of action, passionate scenes (including a hotter than hot one where they are not even touching but just listening to each other...OMG) and a surprise ending.
An entertaining quick read, with a smart mouthed best friend, potty mouthed little girl and a cautionary tale for all!

I would like you to know in advance that this is one of those books that stays with you. I was very happily graced with about a 12-hour book hangover after I read Broken Pasts. That being said, lets get to the review.
Broken Pasts is an amazing story with a spectacular heroine/role model. Theresa McMaster is a woman who has been through it all and come out with less that herself. She has the fun and slightly obnoxious friend every girl has and she is ready to get back on her own. Nathaniel is straight out of one of my favorite dreams *wink wink*. I instantly fell in love with these characters. It was as if I had known them for years. They were relatable, dynamic, and assertive. The writing was absolutely captivating. CM Stunich had me from the first sentence. This book gets happily placed on my "I finished it in one sitting because god only knows what would happen if I tried to walk away" shelf. This story is not all puppy dogs and kitty cats. It hits some hard places and sheds light on some dark truths about our society. CM had me laugh out loud, gasp, cry and inevitably scream and throw a mild tantrum all while finishing it off with some hot cocoa and marshmallows and I loved every second of it.
3.0 out of 5 stars I almost shed a tear 10 July 2014

The second to last page in the epilogue, oh goodness, my eyes couldn't read fast enough. Way to play at my emotions Ms. Stunich. And speaking of emotions, this book hit upon a lot of them. Humor being at the forefront.

I loved the characters, each of them felt important and unique. The secondary characters were vibrant and I must say I loved Jamie's portrayal as Theresa's best friend. The only thing I didn't like was the clear ignorance in regards to Rhea's phallus obsession and inappropriate comments. Sure she probably learned it from the adults around her, and it might have even been funny for a while, but eventually that foul mouth should've been checked. Clearly it only progressed when she became a teen.

I think the romance between Theresa and Nathaniel was done right, it didn't feel forced or too much like a romance novel. It felt believable to me especially accounting for the fact that both of the were seriously damaged. The novel packed just the right amount on tasteful steam, although I would've loved a bit more. The suspense was carefully drawn out without becoming too stale. The climax at the end (no pun intended) is a big one. When the situation pops off, it pops off dramatically, leaving you reeling and ready for the immediate resolution.

I finished this book rather quickly and you will too. Great read for the summer.
