One click this book. I’ve read all the previous books around Todos Santos, and enjoyed them all, but this book, This Book Wrecked Me. I cried! It’s a rare, rare thing for actual tears to run down my cheeks. Welldone Ms Shen, go for a walk, stretch your legs, clear your mind, speak to your family, then please get back to your typewriter! For all those readers who have read her previous books, you know that you are in for a treat. For anyone who hasn’t, what are you waiting for? This book has it all, love, heartbreak, loss, & humour, the bonds of family and friendship are tested, and in the aftermath of inevitable loss, love still shines through. I absolutely loved this story. Can’t wait for more.
I have been loosely following this series over the past couple of years and whilst enjoying the other books this one hit it out of the park. It was ridonkulous how good it was. Knight was perfect in his imperfection. Their connection, love and hate, anguish, back and forth was on point. It was drawn out but not over done, it was felt with such real emotion. I genuinely cried and I am not a book crier. The "Judas Iscariot" line was probably the funniest things I've read in years. Love it, welldone. I read in the Acknowledgments that this book was difficult to write and I just want to say thank you for persevering, thank you for pouring yourself out into this project. It was incredible.
Have your ever read a book that will simultaneously break your heart and then fix it all in one? I thought I had, but I was not prepared for this one. It truly was one of the most emotional and wonderful books I have ever read.
L.J. Shen, writes with this incredible realness, she writes these characters that I easily fall in love with and relate to. Knight Cole and Luna Rexroth are no exceptions to this rule. Knight is so much like Dean and Rosie he was going to be hard not to love, but boy oh boy, did I love his character (even when I wanted to slap him) and Luna, Luna was easy for me to relate to. She is wonderfully written, so strong, and fearless, and yet so vulnerable at the same time.
The story is amazing. I really didn’t want it to be over, it was truly a rollercoaster ride of ‘the feels’. I think I experienced every emotion while reading it. It was so well thought out, so welldone by L. J. Shen.
I loved that all the characters from this world were so excellently woven into the story. I also can’t wait to read all about Vaugh’s story next. I don’t think I will ever want to not read about this world. These characters are going to always have a special place in my heart.
I honestly can’t recommend this book enough. One of the best books I have ever read, it has left I mark on my book loving soul.
This was the first book I read in the series, and I regret starting out of order. Mainly because all the characters seemed (in my humble opinion) to have substance and depth. I just wish i had taken the time to start from the beginning to see it all unfold.
Having said that - this one packs are real emotional punch. I know this is supposed to be about Luna and Knight, but strangely i found myself more drawn to Dean & Rosie's love story. No joke!
For me, their journey was passionate, desperate and beautifully tragic. I cried for their loss and grief, lost tomorrows and memories of yesterday.
I thought these characters were so artfully painted by L.J Shen, that they struck a nerve and seemed so real. Welldone.
