This story isn’t only about Knight and Luna (although they’re amazingly written and perfectly flawed characters that overcome so much to be together). It’s Rosie’s story, Dean’s, Lev’s and even Dixie’s. Every side character and side story in this book make up a tragic love story that you just can’t put down. I promise there is a happy ending (mostly), but it absolutely breaks your heart and leaves you shattered. Everyone deserves a partner and a mum like Rosie. Read it. It’s worth the tears.
I never write reviews and I mean never and it's very rare that a book tears me apart so much that I feel absolutely compelled to a review on a book, but my boy did this book completely tear me apart. As a reader of the complete series (and a huge fan of knight since the first time he was ever mentioned in Rosie and Deans story) I was scratching to get my hand on this book and once I did I devoured and feasted upon each page as if it was the last. This book made me cry in the first god damn chapter, literally FIVE pages in and I was bawling. When I first jumped into broken knight I had a fair idea of what was going to happen but it still didn't mean I was going to be ready for it and God was I not ready for it. Get your God damn tissues and sit down for the insane ride that is Broken Knight because this book is going to break you apart and simultaneously put you back together.
Where do I even start to describe the awe inspiring work of L. J. Shen.
This book took me on a rollercoaster of emotions with so many twists and turns. The entire book is executed perfectly, I can't think of anything to criticise about this book. I don't even care that I'm now slightly sleep desorbed as I read this book straight through till morning (thankfully the sun hasn't come up yet).
The characters are so complex and their personalities so deeply rooted that I felt as if I had known these characters before reading the book. I instantly connected with theses characters and I wanted to know their story. The characters growth throughout this book is phenomenal and inspiring. The FMC deals with childhood trauma and her muteness while the MMC deals with his mum dying and his addictions. It's hardcore and intense and I couldn't ask for anything more - I loved and devoured it all.
The story was intense there is no better word to describe how I felt during this book. I felt everything the characters were going through so acutely - I haven't been effected by a book like I was when reading Broken Knight in so long I can't even remember the book. Side note: I also love that Luna is a year older than Knight (usually it's the other way round). Two of my friends and I had a reading party tonight where we all started the book at the same time and updated each other based on location in the book and our feelings and we can all agree that we varied through sighing and swooning, to ugly sobbing (quite a bit) and even a little angry yelling towards some of the choices of the main characters. All in all, we loved every bit of this soul twisting novel.
If a book doesn't make you feel, you aren't reading the right books. Broken Knights captures you and holds you in all the feels imaginable.
Side side note: Rosie 😭 I love that we get to see more of Rosie and Dean we even got a very short POV of both of them but I enjoyed perceiving these characters through the eyes of their children in this spin of series.
If you haven't read the Sinner of Saint series then you are depriving your soul. This series is the spin off to that parent series and it's just as good!!
OMG if ever I could rate a book 10 stars this would be one of them. I am a huge fan of LJ Shen and anything she writes ill read, so when she announced this book and the date it was due out the countdown began but the wait seemed forever but it was oh so so worth every second of the wait. This book is by far my favourite of hers so far and thats saying alot as I adore all her books and have read them all multiple times but this one. This one brought all my emotions out it left a huge lump in my throat as i seriously didnt want it to end. I loved Luna and Knights story it was a tale of childhood friendship that nothing or no one can break a tale of heartbreak a tale of growing up and finally seeing what has been right in front of you the whole time a tale of two tortured souls trying to find their place in this world, its a tale of losing loved ones and finding yourself in the things that person taught you. This story had me in tears, which i seriously did not expect. We got to see that Dean and Rosie were still as strong as ever but then the unexpected happened and it killed me . I felt like a era had ended that one HotHoles will never be the same again, but then at the end you see a glimmer of hope even amongst the tragedy. This book took so many unexpected turns but i loved every second of it. It was one hell of a beautifully heartbreaking journey. If you havent read any of LJ shens books start with Vicious and work your way through them that way you know each and every character , you will not regret it cannot wait for the next one . Im also hoping Dean gets another book but that might be asking too much lol A+++ Lj Shen pulls you in until your at the edge of your seat turning the page wanting to know what happens next, with each page as tense and raw as the one before it . Masterpiece in my eyes. She has outdone herself with this one but im sure ill be saying the same in the next one. A MUST READ FOR ALL!!!!
This is definitely the book of 2019! I've really loved reading these books..they just keep getting better...starting with their parents! I love that they love hard, ride hard and live hard to the fullest despite their failings, despite their short comings. Ruckus with Dean & Rosie was my favourite hothole read and this is just the icing on the cake for me... it's completed the cole family experience for me! I also loved Luna and Trents relationship and that encounter! 😥 happy tears! 1000/5 in my mind! Amazing story, real life issues and the writing, the depth and the storyline had you hooked line and sinker from the start.
Wow. I feel so heavy and my heart feels broken! This book....it completely destroyed me. I cant even cry because I'm still in shock.
LJ how could you!!!! I'm both in love with Luna and Knight's happy ending but distraught over Dean and Rosie.
Overall this book was one of growth and learning through heartbreak and many mistakes. It was a lesson to all that not all love stories are paved in flowers and rainbows. Some just down right hurt! But through the hurt comes something worthwhile and lasting.
Still broken over everything but was definitely worth the wait for Luna and Knight!
Have your ever read a book that will simultaneously break your heart and then fix it all in one? I thought I had, but I was not prepared for this one. It truly was one of the most emotional and wonderful books I have ever read.
L.J. Shen, writes with this incredible realness, she writes these characters that I easily fall in love with and relate to. Knight Cole and Luna Rexroth are no exceptions to this rule. Knight is so much like Dean and Rosie he was going to be hard not to love, but boy oh boy, did I love his character (even when I wanted to slap him) and Luna, Luna was easy for me to relate to. She is wonderfully written, so strong, and fearless, and yet so vulnerable at the same time.
The story is amazing. I really didn’t want it to be over, it was truly a rollercoaster ride of ‘the feels’. I think I experienced every emotion while reading it. It was so well thought out, so well done by L. J. Shen.
I loved that all the characters from this world were so excellently woven into the story. I also can’t wait to read all about Vaugh’s story next. I don’t think I will ever want to not read about this world. These characters are going to always have a special place in my heart.
I honestly can’t recommend this book enough. One of the best books I have ever read, it has left I mark on my book loving soul.
This was the first book I read in the series, and I regret starting out of order. Mainly because all the characters seemed (in my humble opinion) to have substance and depth. I just wish i had taken the time to start from the beginning to see it all unfold.
Having said that - this one packs are real emotional punch. I know this is supposed to be about Luna and Knight, but strangely i found myself more drawn to Dean & Rosie's love story. No joke!
For me, their journey was passionate, desperate and beautifully tragic. I cried for their loss and grief, lost tomorrows and memories of yesterday.
I thought these characters were so artfully painted by L.J Shen, that they struck a nerve and seemed so real. Well done.
