Product description

Product Description

We rejoin The Expedition for its third and final instalment with Jason, now seasoned adventurer, and April, American schoolteacher at sea for the first time, battling to keep their pedal-powered boat Moksha from being dashed against Australia’s Great Barrier Reef.

Crossing the infamous Coral Sea, they’ve endured gale force winds, rogue waves, and powerful currents pushing them off course for days at a time. On her thirtieth consecutive day of seasickness and now haemorrhaging blood, April is in urgent need of medical treatment. But in the uncharted waters north of Cape Flattery, far from coastguard assistance, there is little if any hope of rescue.

Even if they survive, Jason faces untold hazards to complete the first circumnavigation of the planet using only human power: waterless deserts, towering mountain ranges, seaborne pirates, and extremist hotspots. And there is still the overarching question he posed at the beginning, the one driving him forward that will take him to the brink for an answer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Recommended as a top-flight adventure book with deep-seated lessons for those who pay attention 28 August 2016
By Susan Reep - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
I enjoyed books one and two but book three surpassed them by far, possibly because I was familiar with the expedition by now and understood the real dangers and problems Jason faced on all sides. The story is more complex that it appears at the start. In book one we are getting to know the characters who are real people of course, and there is a great deal of humor as they adapt to the adventurer's life. Through book two it became clearer that mishaps could be humorous but more often than not had the potential to be deadly. By this volume Jason has become a much better writer, and he faces dangers and problems from within and without - the natural world, the different cultures and societies he passes through, and his own mental state. Everything has been stripped down to the basics. What Jason did is largely unknown in the world yet there is much we could all learn from his quest because it went much deeper than the setting of a record for circumnavigating the globe by human power. I highly recommend all three books in the series. Terrific reading - but set aside some time because if you are like me, you won't want to put them down.
5.0 out of 5 stars Lewis' inspirational journey is one of the truly great feats of human effort 2 July 2016

Jason Lewis is the first person to have circumnavigated the globe solely on human power. This is the third of the three volume set that is the autobiographical account of his world-record setting journey. One can only marvel at the skill with which Lewis tells his tale of courage, perseverance and self-transformation. Lewis the author is every bit the equal to Lewis the adventurer. I was particularly struck by the candor and honesty with which he shared himself so openly with the reader. This was an act of courage as sure as was his setting out on a small pedal boat, sometimes accompanied, sometimes alone, to pedal across the Atlantic and the Pacific, to cross the North American continent on inline skates, to ride a bicycle through the Himalayas, and so on. Lewis' inspirational journey is one of the truly great feats of human effort. This book and its companion volumes make a great tale, splendidly told, worthy of the epic journey. The book was alternately inspirational, intimate, informative and sometimes funny. The books were page-turners. Once I got started, I couldn't put them down!

A very satisfying end to the trilogy. I wish that Jason was better known - he is a modern day hero! What struck me most is his absolute honesty with himself about his motivations, the expedition, his life. A life well examined for sure! I wish everyone would read The Expedition Trilogy. I have gifted my set already to a friend and can't wait to share with others. Do not hesitate to buy these books! Your life will be changed!

I really enjoyed all three books in the series. Jason accomplished something truly amazing and inspirational. I feel sad that the journey is over and three won't be another installment.
5.0 out of 5 stars Part III was a great read to an amazing journey 16 August 2016

Part III was a great read to an amazing journey! Just buy all 3 books together it's easier and you won't be disappointed! Appropriate that I finished this book at the end of a cycling holiday in Iceland. Jason has been an inspiration. His ideas learned during the expedition are very relevant to moving towards a more sustainable future!
